I have a 4 year old boar Chip. His mate died about a month ago and so we got another little boar 'Milo' so he wouldn't be lonely. They have got on fantastically all this time. Chip has had a spring in his step and has seemed really happy.

The past 2 days I have noticed Chip being a little bit grumpy, heard a little bit of teeth chattering. Today I noticed chip guarding the food bowl, actually lying next to it and stoping Milo from eating. I wasn't sure at first so I put a piece of apple next to Milo in the sleeping area, Went back a few minutes later and it looked like chip had chased Milo out of the sleeping area and he was now munching the apple. Kept a close eye on them for a while longer and there was lots of teeth chattering from Chip, he sounded really grumpy, Milo was just sat sadly in the corner. So I've taken Chip out and left Milo in the hutch so he can have a chance at getting something to eat. Chip has calmed down now and is sat in a cage eating carrot

What do I do?! Shall I put Chip back in and see if it all calms down?

It has all calmed down now thankfully. Kept Chip out of the hutch for a couple of hours, had a bit of lap time with them both. I checked Milo over and he has no signs that anything got physical between them.

I've now put two bowls of food in the hutch and two piles of hay so Chip can't stop Milo from eating. I put Chip back in and sat there for ages but they were fine. Just keep peeping my head around the door, they are both stood there eating from the same bowl now. I reckon they must have just had a bit of a tiff but they have made up now!

aww bless, my two are at it all the time teeth chattering and so on, but i have to leave them to it, until they draw blood they arent being separated, might sound harsh i dont know, i just like them being together. Hope it all works out. Poor Milo, and poor Chip lol x

have you made sure there is 2 of everything? might be worth getting 2 feeding bowls and 2 beds, just encase they need their "own space" some days...

Boars ideally should have one each of everything; food bowl, water bottle & pigloo/hidey. This gives them less reason to argue & if you scatter veggies rather than put them in a bowl neither can guard the bowl. :)

I didn't think of that so i'm going to do that with my 2.

My cage has a sleeping area that can be removed. Should I remove it and put 2 pigloo's in?
