Hello everyone

Does this eye look normal? I feel like the bottom white bit wasn’t there before, wasn’t as obvious, it’s like the lower eye lid has dropped a little maybe?
Both eyes are the same. I tried to get a photo with and without the flash.

The third photo (with the hay around him) is what the eye used to look like, no white at the bottom

Thank you

Hi

Please don' t worry. It is normal for the lower lid to loose tension a little as piggies get older. If the lower lid falls away and exposes the conjunctiva, it is called 'pea eye' and is a harmless condition.

If you notice the conjunctiva swelling/puffing up and little purple things appearing (these are protruded tear glands), then please see a vet.

Thank you so much for your reply, I read they can get pea eye from being a little over weight is this true? He will be 2 in June so I thought he was still quite young for this to happen :)

Pea eye usually doesn't happen in both eyes at the same time and he is a bit too young for that to happen anyway. Personally, I haven't seen any tie-in with overweight; none of my own quite a few pea eye piggies over the years was overweight.

I would not worry but see a vet in the case this is going to turn into a conjunctivitis (which I very much hope not) but for that the conjunctiva needs to really puff up.

I think I will try and get a vet appointment tomorrow, I now think the outer part of the eye is starting to puff up a little (the outer corner, closest to his ear) the pictures are both eyes, his right and left
