Eye problem

Please do see a vet for a hands on check. The fur around his eye does look wet so there may be something going on.
i hope he Is ok

Hi!
I noticed that his left eye has a gray halo and seems smaller than the right one.
Is everything alright with him? :(

Hi
In-drawn eyes mean that his eye is hurting and the wetness around the eye means that there is an irritation. This could come from something firmly stuck under the eyelid, a perforation of the eye surface (hay poke) that has not yet started to ulcerate (blueish-grey gunk forming on the surface of the eye).

Please try to see a vet within a day if possible. Eye injuries can deteriorate very quickly but they also heal rather easily the sooner you can step in with antibiotic eye drops or gel from your vet who will assess the damaged to the eye with a special dye under UV light. Thankfully, any eye treatment and medication is the same as for rabbits, cats and dogs so you do not need to see a specialist. Any decent general vet should know how to deal with an eye injury.

You can additionally ask for a painkiller for the soreness. A lubricant is not a medication as such and your vet may not prescribe it but plain human carbomer based tear gel (drops if you cannot get any gel) will help with the eye comfort and can help to speed up the healing process. The gel is much more effective and longer lasting but it cannot heal an infection on its own. You need to always wait for at least half an hour after you have applied the antibiotic eye drops before you treat with any lubricant.

For giving any drops, you gently pull down the lower eyelid a little and aim the drops into the gap. Any gel you can just dab on the eye surface. It is not always quite easy with a wiggly piggy but if you distract them with some food, they become a bit less wary once they are absorbed with the chewing.

I hope that this helps you?

Hi, please do see a vet possibly within the next 24 hours. Two of my piggies both had sore eyes on Sunday. Thankfully my vet is open for two hours on a Sunday and could fit them in. Both girls had grass seeds stuck in their eyes and both had a nasty corneal ulcer. They were prescribed an antibiotic drop twice a day and corneal repair gel four times a day. They saw the vet again yesterday. Ella’s eye is completely healed and Esme only has a tiny ulcer left
