Hi,

Last night we took Picchu to the vets as his eye was looking sore and had a red protruding part at the bottom. The vet has diagnosed a infection/ulcer caused by trauma (think it was Machu accidentally catching him when giving him his marching orders from a hide whilst on the lawn). He's on Rheumocam, Isathal eye drops and some lubricant eye ointment. His eye is looking a bit worse this morning. Would you say that's normal 'getting worse before it gets better' or something that needs to be seen again? Never had any eye problems before so not sure. Thanks in advance. Pic is of his eye this morning before and after drops.

I haven’t got any experience of eye issues. But I would say if is looking worse after a week I’d take him back to the vets for a check up. Good luck.

As he has only just been seen by the vet and treatment has barely started, I think I would give it at least a few days to see how things go. If he gets worse in the meantime then speak to the vet but you do need to give some time for treatment to start to work.

Sorry. I read that as last week not last night. 👍🏻

Hi
It takes about 2-3 days for treatment to really kick in and for you to see an improvement.
Antibiotics (isathal) build up over several days and always need a full course for that reaso;, they don't work like a painkiller/anti-inflammatory. The lubricant also needs a few days to really penetrate into the deeper layers of the eye and help with the healing process and with the comfort in the conjunctiva.

Should there be a very noticeable deterioration during this period, then please contact your vet. You have however been given the appropriate medication, so please right now just persist with the treatment and be patient.
