Junior Guinea Pig
Hi TGPF;
Our two boys, Bluebear and Walker have been getting along famously, and are clingy as anything - However, today's sudden heat seems to have brought on a total shift in behaviour in Walker, where he is non-stop humping Bluebear. It hasn't gotten to the point of blood, but it is the only form of dominance display that he is conducting. Humping, humping, and more humping.
Obviously Bluebear is discomforted by it, and we feel like we can't even leave the room without one of us in there to keep an eye on things - Walker is around 6 & 1/2 Months, and Bluebear is around 1 Year, 5 Months - Bluebear has traditionally been a submissive, but was a dominant in his previous relationship with our old (now departed) cagemate Joey. We have been maintaining the temperature indoors to around 24*C (Very hard to in this heat), and are considering giving them two of everything. Despite this, they're happy to share food, bowls and a hay box together, and Bluebear became visibly clingy to Walker when we put Bluebear back in their cage (Currently they're both on the floor cage for Floor Time), so that indicates their bond isn't strained.
There has also been no bullying, as Walker allows Bluebear to eat, drink and groom, but not rest for an extended period of time. It's like someone's given Walker viagra and he's just wanting to be a bit of a Johnny Bravo towards Bluebear...
Is there anything we can do to help them with this?
