Hello everyone. I have a 1 year old female Abyssinian guinea pig (turns 2 in September). Her name is Pumpkin she has had bloat issues since I got her but this time it seems really bad. Her stomach is really big, tight, and very hard right now I took her to the vet before but it wasn't that big of a issue then. Her cage mate is a year old female American guinea pig named Spice. she has it too but not nearly as bad. I gave them veggies last night but I'm holding off today to see if it goes down they only have their hay at the moment. last night I gave them their normal Romaine and bell pepper and they had a bit of some carrots too.

Please do not feed any veg to piggies with bloat. They cannot have veg again until the bloating is dealt with.

Please see a vet for gut medication) and painkillers (bloat is very painful. If the bloat had for worse then this is essential. Severe bloat can sadly kill so help is needed if things are getting worse.

Make sure you have switched from the routine weekly weight checks and are instead weighing each morning. Step in with syringe feeding a recovery feed.

Update I have a vet appointment set for 9am Friday but because of concern she's going to try and get me in sooner. I'm syringe feeding the critical care stuff. I just feel bad because Pumpkin keeps squealing in pain :(.. Spice doesn't seem fazed but she didn't have it as bad at all.

Bloat really is urgent and can’t wait days for a vet. I hope you can get her seen today.
Make sure you are weighing her each morning and getting enough syringe feed into her to keep her weight stable.
For complete loss of appetite it’s 40-60ml syringe feed that is needed each day. 40ml is the minimum amount to keep a piggy alive. She will need small feeds around every two hours.
Ideally she is given 60-90ml per day but a very poorly piggy probably won’t be able to take that much.
The daily weight checks are the guide as to whether she is getting enough

I hope she is ok

Good luck getting her seen as soon as possible. I hope she is ok 🤞🏻
