'Lo everyone.

Has anyone here had any experiences with adopting a pet from a rescue or somesuch?

I told my Mother that I'd really like to adopt a cat, so she asked my Father (who immediately said 'no' until he realised that I wanted to adopt, not buy :D) who thinks it's a fine idea.

So my Mother called the local Cats Protection place for me, and they should call back later today or tomorrow to arrange a home visit. I'm really looking for to it, and I'm hoping that I'll be able to adopt a female cat, preferably young.

I'm nervous about the home visit, though. XD We have a lot of pets, which might put off a more narrow-minded person. But hopefully seeing our cat Spike will show that cats are fine and dandy here, as he's a very happy, lovely cat. I'll need to try to tidy up my chaotic bedroom if they want to see the piggies. o_o; Their cage is spotless, but my bedroom on the other hand..

Sorry :( i've only adopted a beautiful cat from our RSPCA many many years ago before i really remember, it was my parents who did this.. can't comment.
Good luck tho, i hope you find a lovely putty cat, i had a beautiful girl Roxanne that i was given for my 21st and she was a real character :) :)

Good luck :) Bet the homecheck will go fine, don't worry about it O0 Hope you manage to adopt a perfect little kitty :smitten:

i got Howie from a rescue not long ago & had cats years ago from a rescue.
They're usually really nice people, with a cat you'd have to be living away from a main road for obvious reasons. Some rescues may not let you choose which cat but decide which one would suit YOUR life

Good Luck, i hope all goes well for you :)

i got 2 cats from the cats protection league :) this is what happened for me but the procdure may have changed slightly now.

you go to visit the cat/cats at the foster carers home, she tells you all about the cats she has and introduces them to you. if you want one of them she arranges a home visit mainly just to check location (not near main road) and to give advice if you have other pets, talk about vaccinations etc. they get the cat microchipped before they bring it over and you need to fill in some forms, they need a donation - enough to cover the microchipping and neutering/spaying, they give you a receipt and copies of the forms. i found the cats protection league ladies to be really nice - well 'cat people' usually are! ;) 0:)

Their website says that they arrange the home visit here, and then arrange a visit to a fosterer. C:

But, they didn't call today. D: They said they'd call yesterday or today, and haven't - so, either me or my Mother will call them tomorrow.

it was a few years ago when i adopted my cats so they've probably changed the procedure a bit, it's a shame because going to the fosterers house to see all the cats was the best bit! :) i remember my son finding the one of the lady's persians curled up in her washing basket, he fell in love with it and still goes on about persian cats now but all of ours are moggies! :smitten:

I've e-mailled them (still no call), but tomorrow I'm going to go to the Chestnut Cat Sanctuary. It's more expensive, but near-by and no home visits or anything. Y'just go there, fill out forms and find a cat that is right for you to take home straight away.

I'm impatient and it seems like a really nice place, so. :D Wish me luck~

i have 2 dogs, 2cats and a rabit all from rescue...we passed the home checks with flying colours!
The main reason they check is not to see wot animals u have but to make sure u really are and live where u realy say...like if u say u live in a house but really i live in a one bedroom flat!

good luck and keep us posted!

Oh, I know, and also to check that the house is safe and appropriate for the pet in question, right? C: I just worry about the possibility of a more narrow-minded person thinking it's a bad idea because of our other pets.

Buuuut no matter, because I'm going to the cat sanctuary instead~ I'm pretty sure that I'll come back with a cat, but if not - I shall continue to pursue the cats protection path.

I'm very excited! I could hardly sleep last night. XD I know I'm 18, but anything to do with pets jus makes me super giddy. I can't wait to go and meet all of those cats.

We got our piggie Jeremy from Guineas for Life - we did have to wait a few weeks while we made arrangements to meet up, but it has been well worth it - he's a lovely big fluffy piggie!

No luck.

We went, and they showed us too cats.. Then finally, after it being written on the form they read, and after we said it many times - they finally realised that yes, we do have a dog. Not a single cat there was suitable for a home with a dog. Big waste of time.

Called up a place homing cats - only had pairs.

Called up a place with kittens - all gone.

Called Cats Protection - no answer, and still no response to my e-mail. So, I plan to call them on tuesday.

I'm also going to e-mail a rescue centre in Brentwood.

Guuuuh.

I feel icky.

Hopefully, as it's kitten season, we might come across some unwanted kittens or somesuch. Which sounds a bit horrid, but I'm having absolutely no luck.

i got maisy from a rescue, My whole family had to go to the rescue centre and pick a piggie to reserve, a few days later someone came to do the home check, which took 5 minutes, and got the all clear, the next day we picked her up and bought her home to meet her new family.Happy Piggie

No need anymore!

My parents just got back to give me great news.

They were on their way somewhere, and by chance they happened to discover the place that is doing Tiger's cremation along the way. So, they decided to pop in and ask if they knew of a place to adopt a suitable cat, and.. The lady gave my parents the name of a place called 'the Warren.'

They went, and low and behold - a woman's two cats had given birth. All of the kittens had been reserved, all but one - a black, white and grey on the back kitten (really odd combination), a little moggy, only a week old. They reserved it, and next weekend I'm going there to see it and pay them £30. :D So cheap.
