Just thought I would say, have just made my first claim with exotic direct (only took policy out last June) for Rodney's abscess. He cost me just under £400 in total & they have paid every penny no questions asked minus my £50 excess. This took just about 3 weeks to process.

A healthy healed boy, and a refund. Happy days!

I strongly recommend anyone to have insurance for their piggles as they may be small, but man can they run up a vet bill out of the blue!

To finish off my post, Rodney would like you to look at his big botty.

We use them too & it was invaluable over a difficult piggie health time...

Rodney looks a lovely guinea shape :) glad he's better

He has a beautiful bot ;) thank you I agree they really are invaluable when you need them! So glad I have both boys insured....

I pay about £16 for my 2 boys - they may be able to offer you some kind of group deal it'd be worth asking....

I've been quoted £371.70 per year (£30.98 a month) for my 3 girls. It seems a lot. I might just take out an ISA & put £30 a month in it to cover any vets fees.

Sounds really useful! Might have to look into this for mine x x

I have 5 insured and pay £39, one policy has 2 pigs and the other 3 all have annual cover for £2000. My Fred's mouth condition was existing so they have paid nothing towards Fred and I've just added up Fred and Wilma's combined treatment, since November they have cost £994.

Exoctic Direct gave me £181 that was towards Wilma's treatment, but all of Fred's claims where refused as apparently they are all dental related. Wish i would have insured Fred prior to his problems :(.

Fred's back at the vet Monday, so his current figure is due to increase, I knew there was a reason for doing so much OT. :x x

Thy pay 50% of dental? Unless I gues it was pre existing before he was insured...

Even had I put £20 a month away since i took it out it still would have cost more I like that with insurance they will pay out a bigger amount relatively fast. Vets are SO expensive he's a lucky boy having such a caring mummy, this is why it's so hard to find a decent vet most people won't bother with a pig to pay out that much. I would have paid for Rodney regardless, I paid it all for his brother last year before getting insurance.

How is wilma doing? Haven't seen a update on her lately? x

Love your piggy pics, Rodney is gorgeous!

I'm thinking of going with exotic direct and I was also quoted £16 for my boys combined. I think if you get 50% off dental work then that's brilliant as my cat is not covered for any dental work.

Fred's problem are not covered as he had a pre-existing dental condition, but Wilma was covered for her dental.

I know someone who has 3 piggies of the same sex and colouring so only pays for one of them to be insured, as the likelyhood of them being ill at the same time is very very small - and being the same colouring they can all "body double" - so saving £15 a month as it is about £7.50 per pig :x

That's fine until they need to make a claim, they have "pig A" with insurance and pigs A, B and C registered at the vets. They put in a claim for pig B's treatment under the guise that its pig A on the insurance policy, the insurance company call the vet surgery to clarify which animal had the treatment as they have a policy for pig A but the vets have sent the history for pig B, and then they're done for insurance fraud...

I've had £1600 paid out from exotic direct this year for one expensive pig!
