Hi.
I've had my sows for just over two weeks now.
They've started having floor time.
They love their indoor pen (they get a bit scared if the whole family is around).
But the last few days, when I put them in between 11.30am & 2pm... They seem to just chill in their dome?
What sort of times are best to get them out for exercise please?
Thankyou

Mine go out in the morning (very dependant on when I wake up!) the afternoon and the evening. Notably less active in the afternoon!

Piggies are up and down they rest then get up then rest again, there is no real guide to their movements unfortunately

Thanks everyone.
I don't have time to get them out first thing cos I have to do the school run.
I usually put them in the pen during my daughters nap... But they just seem to lie down in the dome. But I don't want to just get them out in the evening after the girls are in bed, cos that's not very long and then they've been in the hutch all day.
But it's a bit of a pain setting up the pen for them to not use it.
Does that make sense?

all my piggies seem active in the evening ,young groups zoom up and down ramps and go bursurk:lol!:,so i often get them out in their runs between 7 pm and 9 pm.outside piggies are out in there grass runs from 12md to 8pm,permitting weather etc.in winter i have a run set up in the shed where they all get at least 2 hours aday, usually in the early evening.some of indoor piggies free range for two hours, but i have to put up boards in the dangerous areas.it really is what works best for you and your piggies.they get more confident with time.good luck.enjoy because floor time/run time can be good fun for both adults, children and piggies.:tu:

Thankyou so much. That's really helped!
I love my piggies and absolutely love watching them in their run. So I want to use it at the best times for them.

Mine have been going outside in the run weather and someone being home permitting. They start eating grass as soon as they get out there then rest for a while then eat again. We will soon be into our winter routine which will mean them having floor time when I'm home either mid morning or afternoon. I pick grass, dandelions or milk thistle from the garden and sprinkle it around the large fleece blanket they have on the floor (Peanut has never mastered the art of walking on wood flooring) this encourages them to explore and not disappear straight into a hidey.

that is their normal resting time. Guinea pigs are crepuscular, so most active in the mornings and evenings. They are up and browsing occasionally during the day, but it is not their main exercising time. As long as you are fine with them chilling out in the run during the day, they will be OK. You can always give them a second time later in the evening.

They are some great tips. Thankyou ☺️

Ok that's fab Thankyou.
I may do a smaller run in the afternoon then. I've got an extendable one.
I'll try my best to get them out in mornings but it's difficult cos of the school drop off.

Your girls are very well looked after anyway, so don't stress yourself about about mornings. The more run time they have, the more chilled out about it they become anyway - so having lazy piggies actually means that yours are not short of exercise.

The older guinea pigs get, the calmer and lazier they generally become, too. my oldies' run time usually consists of saying hello to the ground floor piggies in their pens and then finding the most comfy spot for a snooze... :mal:

Ha ha. That's adorable!
Thankyou. I don't feel as stressed about it now.
I just want the best for my piggies. ☺️

I find that my girls are sleepier between 12-3.30pm, then seem to get more active afterwards.
