Hi, I’ve started to notice my guinea pigs eye watering excessively, and it’s only one eye. It’s to the point where his fur around the eye is wet. I know this is a way for Guinea pigs to clean themselves, but it’s only one eye? And there isn’t anything else going on. No weight loss, sneezing or signs of a respiratory illness. I have yet to take him to a vet, should I?

Hi

Plese have your piggy vet checked. Watery tear fluid is always a sign of an irritation or pain in the eye. It could be something stuck under a lid or an eye poke that has not ulcerated yet.

The normal eye cleaning fluid is a milky white that is reabsorbed by the tear duct.
