now at the beginning i had stated i have four piggies two were mine and the others were my sisters. i looked after them while my mother could not, i didn't say why she could not handle them earlier for personal reasons, now that she is better she can. she has got a new cage for them new hidy place, they are super happy. so i only have 2 piggies that are mine, that is why i myself want a third to make my boys happy, now i am not sure a desex girl or another boy for the fighting issues. but i know for a fact guinea pigs are happier as threes or fours. the other two my mum and sister had hassled my two which is why we do not think about keeping them together for a large period, however my piggies my two want another friend and i am very sure both piggies came from huge litters huge families. i might be new to this but i am not stupid i can tell when they are happy aka pop corning and when not aka with my sisters pigs

Pardon me for being rude, but have you listened to any of the advice you've been given? mallethead

TWO bonded boars can live together happily. More than two, they will fight.

A boar and a sow (one of which MUST be desexed), can live together.

Two or more sows and ONE DESEXED boar can live together. More than one boar, they will fight.

hi,

yes guinea pigs are happier in groups of more than two, but more than two boys put together rarely works.

girls on the other hand can be put in a larger group, I have 5 together. I also have two sets of boys which are kept in pair in separate hutches:)

i was thinking getting a girl but different cage and under my eyes say hello to boys only under my eyes, and maybe even one at a time. isnt it dangerous to desex the piggies

I saw on another thread that the current cage you are keeping your 2 boys in is not big enough for 2 pigs... I think it may be a good idea for you to focus on giving your current pigs a healthy and happy home before you consider getting any more.

oh when ppl post advice a way to not make the new ppl sound stupid or not good or being a bad slave would be to write the nice thoughts downs not neg ones, also ways to fix problems not ways it wouldnt work for i thought that myself. i know ppl are more experience than me that is why i want help not reasons to not have a girl piggie for ive never had a girl even as a little girl ages 5-9 (when i didnt look after them mum did) so * saying its impossible to have one doesnt help makes it worst

so you want to keep a girl on her own? thats just mean.

and it doesnt matter if you keep an eye on them it only takes a few seconds for a boar to get a sow pregnant, so thats just irresponsible.

also if you were to let the boys near the girl. they would not be happy going back together as they will now have the female scent on them. so you will have 3 single piggies. so you will need another cage.

no its not dangerous to neuter a boy if done by a very good cavy savy vet.

you ask for advice but you ignore it. why ask if your not going to take any notice of it?

Again, one lone pig, male or female, isn't going to be happy. You'd need two. If you then allowed the males and females to mix, chances are they'd end up pregnant, and pregnancies can have complications and you can end up losing mum AND babies. Also males housed near females i.e. side by side, or even in the same room, can end up falling out and fighting.

It can be dangerous to desex pigs, particularly females as the operation is much larger. You need a very experienced vet to do the operation. I had a very experienced vet desex my sow, and she STILL had complications, and the resulting vets bills totaled £1200 (nearly $2000 Australian dollars), and she's still receiving treatment. It's not a decision to be made on a whim.

I think what everyone is trying to say is, sort the boys out first, save up for a cage of 120cm or bigger, then they will be happy and have space...

Then when you have the boys welfare looked after then think about getting a pair of females which goes without saying will need a large cage too:)

Agree with Little Pig - give the piggies you have the best you can provide.
We all love our furries, I started with two boars and now have 15 including a herd of six and a trio of girls x) because I craved for as many as I could manage :(|)
My lounge consists of pen space of 42 ft in total along two walls all lovingly and painstakedly built by my OH - I would love to have more piggies but we really have no more space unless we sat on the floor :( ;)

i had three males together, two of them fought so i had to part them, so now one on his own and two together, a girl in the same room would make your boys fight, as she will come into season, and they will smell her, boys are best in pairs, sorry, but you dont know that your boys would like a friend, it is you that wants another, and it wont work if you try to introduce another in their cage,x

i totally agree with the other members opinions. You can not put 3 boys together and you can certainly not get a female, neutered or not, even if you do keep her in a seperate cage you have clearly said that you will let them play togetherunder swupervision. Well no amount of supervision will prevent the 2 boys fighting over the girl. You should never have 2 boars and one female, In fact you should never have 2 boars with 15 females as they will fight.

I have to say that you come across totally ignorant of how guinea pigs should live and behave and i am only glad that you are on this forum seeking advice, please please do not get anymore guinea pigs. As another member said please concentrate on the 2 you have.

so * guys are saving forget wanting a female piggie for it wont work, so just forget it even though at start your were told that snuffles was a girl but was wrong and ended up sad for i havent had a girl and wanted one so badley, so i tried again and very piggie i had chosen were boys so i got a boy and well they love each other i know, but doesnt make up for the fact i really wanted a girl. i know sex doesnt matter but you can even ask my mum ive only had male pets and serious would love a girl pet and well i only love piggies :( so i am pretty sure not gettin a female is like a no-brainer. havent you wanted something so bad and was told no, I'm pretty sure you would still want it/her/him.

I haven't posted on any of your other threads but have seen them, i think you would be best to concentrate and give all of the love you have to the piggies you already have, and your sisters pigs too, as the circumstances may change again and you may have to look after them. And after seeing your other thread and the fact you weren't sure on the sexes of them and the fact they've all been together at one stage or another, there is probably babies on the way anyway.

can i add that people are just trying to help you on here? lots of the people are very experienced, they helped me a lot when i had my three boys in together, i took the advice given to me, and now my piggies all live happily in one room, and i would never get a female as this would cause chaos!

we're not saying dont ever get a girl but for now concentrate on your 2 boys. once you have them sorted in a big cage and happy, then think about getting a pair of girls to live away from the boys.

but until you have sorted out the boys i dont think its very fair to think about girls. there will still be girl piggies out there in years to come, so there is no rush.

You've said it yourself - why does sex matter? If you wanted a female, you should have researched and got properly sexed pigs.

You've got them now, so you have to do the best by them as they're your responsibility.

You're 17 years old, there's plenty of years left to get a female pet.

Boys or girls the guinea pigs you have atm have to have their needs met and at the moment they haven't got a bigger enough cage. As everyone has said get a pair of girls when you can meet the needs of the ones you have otherwise it would be irresponsible:(

good thing my dads a builder can build be a super big cage. ill just wont consider a girl than for obs noone thinks i could manage. (bigger cage is coming for the boys dads making it needed to know how big was all) so meaning i could have got to females just not asap like a few months

not forgetting that even if you kept girls well away from the boys, you would have to wash your hands before moving from girls cage to boys,as they would still smell them on you, and on your clothes too, so quite a a lot of hassle to have girls.

if other ppl can manage two sexes I'm pretty sure i can, oh with the whole me might having to look after the others boys again I'm pretty sure my mums dad wont die again, so my mother wont go down hill again

That's great if your dad's a builder, a nice big cage could be built for them they would love that!:))

Then you could plan where to put a second cage in the future for a pair of girls:)

I have two pairs of boys and a group of girls all in separate hutches,

I have never had a problem keeping the cages close together and have never had fighting between my pairs of boars but that is just my experience.

As long as the cages are a fair bit away and not touching each other:)

if other ppl can manage two sexes I'm pretty sure i can,

i have boys and girls but my 2 boys are neutered and each boy lives with 3 girls thats how we cope with both sexes, or as lliquorice allsorts says rememebr to wash hands and keep them away from each other.

as for the second bit about your mum, I'm not sure she would like that being put on a public forum. i know my mum wouldn't

i have the space but well not the time, my nan might have that illness where one day want remember me at all, so been busy with family issues organizing what to do. the reasons i got the cage for my boys were the others boys werent being nice so had to split them asap and well sorting out family stuff is very important for my family havent had luck for my mum alone has long her child and father in under 11yrs and might be loosing her mum, takes a be stain on someone, and i myself at age 17 have witness 11dealths in my family and friends. so that is why i come to think sorting out our lives first would be best off so i can do the best for my piggies for they are the only things that have worked out (besides the sexes)

I can not stress enough that you need to keep just your boys for now and dont even contenplate girls. You seem very impulsive and may want girls so bad that you dont listen to our advice.
We all care about the welfare of guinea pigs on this forum and we al know what we are talking about. I started out with 2 boys when i know nothing about guinea pigs and was desperate for a herd of girls with a neutered male.
However i had to keep my 2 males as that is what i had and there was nothing i could do about it.
You shold do the same and wait until you are more mature before taking on anymore guinea pigs

heh well its public in a way for my pops facebook wall is still up for ppl like to talk to him, plus no one got it that i wouldnt have my sisters piggies again and it was so frustrating.
