My guinea pig often spends the morning and evening with her little cage in the balcony since the weather during these times of the day is very pleasant. I recently noticed that there are flies in the balcony. Two flies that just don't seem to leave. I gave her a bath, Cleaned her cage and her mat but they just don't seem to go. Flies can cause serious illnesses. I read in many articles that eucalyptus oil's scent is something that flies hate. Eucalyptus oil is also toxic to guinea pigs upon putting on their skin or if they drink it. Is the scent of it also toxic? What can I do to make sure that no flies show up?

Eucalyptus oil smells very strong and will be very irritating and distressing to piggies, and isnt likely to deter flies! Covering the piggy cage or better still the whole balcony with mosquito netting is a better option. Or perhaps those sticky fly papers you can hang up, or an electric bug zapper?

Well, The scent of eucalyptus is one that infuriates the senses of a fly, and thus, deters them from the source. I was thinking of maybe putting on the railing of the balcony and keeping the cage on the back corner of the balcony. If that does not work I guess I can cover her cage and use a zapper. Thankyou for your help!
