Hi guys,

I was wondering if you could help with a bit of a problem we're having with one of our baby sows... Lily (the little ginger one)

We've had them around a week now, but Lily sometimes acts quite strange - initially we thought that she was bossing her friend Daisy about (the little badger pig!), working out a seniority thing, but now we're worried that she might be a little bit crazy!
When she's put back in her cage, she often popcorns, but not gently, it looks quite violent, almost like she doesn't have much control over it. She can leap around the cage doing this, getting great height. Often it bends her head sideways with the force of the action. This extends to her trying to have a drink, but her 'popcorns' and head movements get in the way. She's not really like this when you take her out and have lap-time, and sometimes she's quite quiet, peaceful, and gets on with Daisy just fine. She's a very outlandish pig, loves running and jumping, but sometimes it just looks like she almost can't help it!

What do you guys reckon? @)rolleyes

Haha you have one happy piggy! It is nothing to worry about. Pudsey my Texel X does this and then rumbles all over Eccles his cage mate and popcorns off.

It's a good sign and nothing to be concerned about! Although when I first saw my first pig Sunshine do it I thought he was having seizures! :o

Thanks Sunshine - that's reassuring. The seizure thing worried me as her movements can be quite violent, but as you say, she does look very happy and keeps jumping around and making a mischief! Poor little Daisy is only tiny and I think gets a bit overwhelmed sometimes!

Thanks for your help.

It is great to watch young piggies jumping for joy and has been said above, I guess this is what is happening.

It is just like they have no control over it ... they are still one minute, then in a flash they are jumping up in the air and running around quickly, backwards and forwards and around again. Then stop. Then again it happens.

I really giggle when I see them happen because it is usually when they are young, agile and in good health.

As long as her head is normally held straight and she doesn't shake it as in pain when normal and still, then I would think she is happy and ok.
