I was holding my guinea pig and as I went to set her down she jumped a bit and hit her head on this metal bar on the cage that is a part of the grid that is a door. She sneezed a bit but she didn’t make any shriek or anything. I picked her back up and looked at her and gently felt her to see if she acted like she was in pain or if I felt anything off. Nothing seemed wrong. So then I decided to give her some pea flakes. She got excited and reached for my hand then kind of slinked back. Then she reached again and took them. She’s been sneezing a bunch and I don’t know what to do. Should I take her to the vet? I would really rather avoid it if I can.

A picture of what she hit her head in.

I'm a bit of a newbie here, but I would suggest getting her checked out at the vet. Be sure to describe honestly to the vet what happened so they know what to look for. Hopefully, someone with more experience will be along to give you advice soon.

Ok thanks

Ok she keeps kind of lifting her nose up but her breathing is fine and she is eating and chirping when I open the fridge 😂. I think she’s ok she just hurt herself a little. If anything happens I’ll take her to the vet.

Make sure to keep checking her. If she shows any signs of nausea or dizziness then rub her head make sure she has lots of water. It shouldn’t be that serious, Just watch her so it doesn’t happen again.

Firstly I am curious as to how you would know if a guinea pig is feeling nauseous?

Secondly please do not rub her head in this situation.
Particularly if she is sneezing a lot after her fall this could indicate some type of damage or trauma to her delicate nasal passages, and rubbing her head would possibly make this worse.

@SavyCavyGirl please have her seen by a vet if she is still showing any change in behaviour.
I would also switch to weighing her daily at the same tome to monitor her eating.
Additionally when people give advice of a medical nature it is always a good idea to check if they have been a member for a while or (even better) if they have the Health and Illness badge in their signature bar.
These are the members who are going to offer sensible, safe and reliable advice.

I may be young on guinea pig forum. But I am well educated on my animals which are Guinea Pigs, Leopard Geckos, Birds, A dog, And multiple bunnies. I assure you advice I am giving is accurate, I do my research from many forums and my uncle who’s animal hospital I volunteer at. Maybe I should not have said rub her head but it works for my pigs. Also the signs of nausea can be drooling or more. Depending on you’re guinea Pig.

I am currently working with some of the leading animal researchers and vets at my place of work. But I’m no way questioning your information.
It has just taken us all by surprise

Please have her seen by a vet if at all worried, it's the safest course of action.

Thank you for everything! She stopped sneezing she’s fine now. Phew!
She has kept a steady weight and I think it’s been liek a month or maybe two since the incident. She just honked herself. I called the vet and explained and they said that as long as she was breathing fine and eating to not come in YET unless something happens and nothing has. Thank you everyone!
