Just a quick question to anyone familiar with the Cat & Rabbit Clinic and their working hours...

Squeaks needs his molars burred now, according to my usual vet. I don't want them done under GA if at all possible, him being 7 years old makes that more risky, so I need to take him to see Simon or Kim asap. I phoned for an appointment today, but they are currently fully booked this week then on leave for 2 weeks. The receptionist suggested I call at 8am for a same day emergency appointment, that's not a problem in itself but I have variable available hours due to having to be at home to get my son to college. To save me wasting my and their time telephoning on a day when a visit wouldn't be practicable anyway, does anyone know at what time of day they see the emergency appointments? Or do they fit them in throughout the day?

Thanks!

I managed to get through and get an appointment for later this morning. Phew!
If he does indeed have molar spurs, I guess I could be having to make this trip regularly...
Hope it goes really well for Squeaks and that if he has molar spurs your visits will be not too often. While you are there Simon/Kim may suggest you book a return appointment there and then which in some ways takes the stress and worry out of getting one in the future

Thanks everyone ☺️
We're just home from Northampton. Kim examined Squeaks very thoroughly, she found no sign of any brewing abscesses anywhere in his jaw, or any other signs of pain. But she did find that his arthritis is worse, more noticeable, in his front feet and right rear ankle, so he was a bit damp underneath.
Then she took him out the back to do his teeth - she said there were indeed spurson his front molars, fortunately not growing over his tongue etc. Apparently they were quite hard to file - good for him but more work for her 😁. I don't know if they will grow back or how soon, I'll just have to get my vet to check when he has his incisors burned.
So glad Cat and Rabbit is there though!

We're off to see Simon this afternoon, Squeaks has lost a fair amount of weight in the last few days. Also yesterday sometimes his breathing seemed a bit pop-y. He still seems to be eating okay though, he attacks the twice daily piles of grass with gusto and demands nuggets with menaces whenever I open the hutch...

We had a good visit to Simon this afternoon, things weren't as bad as I'd feared/they could have been.

He said the molars were only growing sideways slightly, not bridging liked I'd feared after my local vet said they were growing that way in mid April. But he showed me how Squeaks' lower incisors are wider and thicker than normal, not a nice clean white colour and with extra thin bits growing at the base - "macrodontia". I guess it's related to the pulpitis Kim diagnosed over a year ago. They were a lot longer than they should be, possibly hurting his gums and also stopping him closing his mouth properly so his molars don't grind down ...

The way forward seems to be to ensure that he has his incisors burred every 4 weeks or so, to ensure the lower ones don't get too long etc. That should help to keep his molars ground down. I'm hoping that it will be sufficient to have it done at my local vet mostly. Also hoping that now his teethies are sorted for the mo, he will put on a bit of the weight that he lost recently 😉
