Hi everyone, about a month ago now Elvis got poked in the corner of his right eye by a piece of hay (here's the previous thread Hay was stuck in the corner of Elvis's eye- do I need to go to the vet? ). Just now I had to pull out a piece of hay from the same eye in the same place! I know it only just happened because I was watching him at the time. The eye was watering as I gently got out the piece of hay and cleaned his eye with some salt water. After the hay was out it stopped watering but he squinted for 5 minutes or so after.
I think it's best to call the vets but my parents say he'll be fine. Do you agree calling/ going to the vets is best?
Thanks in advance

It's always best to call the vet when it comes to eyes. A bit of hay can cause a lot of damage in only a very short amount of time. The eye may be OK but only a vet can tell you that. Are you sure you got all the hay out. Sometimes a tiny piece can be left under an eyelid.

I would call the vets for advice . They may advise a dye test to check whether there’s any damage to the eyeball. Have you got eyedrops/pain killers from before. If so tell the vet as they may still be safe to use if the vet recommends their use. Good luck.

:agr: Remember eyes can be seen by general vets. And they can deteriorate quickly so get him in soon. Hope he’s better soon ☺️

Ok I'll get my parents my parents to call the vets and schedule an appointment for as soon as possible. I don't have any painkillers and the drops from last time are past the use by 😟

Poor Elvis - a vet trip is definitely needed to ensure there's no damage, or to start treatment if there is.
Well done catching it so quickly

Aw, poor lad, we are all wishing Elvis a quick recovery very soon x

Thanks, I'm so glad I was there or he could have been walking around with the hay still in his eye for who knows how long! It was only a small bit and I thought none was stuck in the eye until I got him on my lap to clean it

All the best! Hopefully you have got it all out before it could do any serious damage. Some piggies seem to be more prone in getting hay into their eyes and especially under their lids.

Since eye treatment and medication is the same for all mammal pet species, any general vet can deal with them. Promptness is more important than getting a specialist appointment.

Elvis does seem to be good at getting haypoke 🙄 He didn't even close his eye properly as the hay went in it!

Oh Elvis! 🙄 He seems to be a real hay magnet....best wishes for his appointment.

Good news, Elvis's eye is all fine. There's no ulcer or hay still in the eye so the vets were happy for me to just monitor and make sure he doesn't start squinting or anything. It sounds like Elvis was a right pain for the vet though! She had to get another person to help her because he wouldn't stay still 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣🤣 She did also say he was so cute and she wanted to keep him though (another pignapper @Betsy @Siikibam :)) )
Elvis says thanks for the lovely messages everyone 😊
