Hello again :) So my house gets very could i n the mornings and i have been seeing alot of posts about heat pads in cages and i was wondering if i placed one of my electric blankets in my piggys cage(the cage is pretty big.) if that would be ok or would the get to warm? I was thinking of placing the blanket at the bottom of the cage and placing puppy pads over it.. Do you think that could work ?

Don’t use an electric blanket, they have wires inside and could kill your guinea pigs, that is of toy are thinking of the same ones as me (which I think are the only type of electric blanket)

I hear alot of people say electric blankets catch fire . Never had one so dont know myself

Yeah they can catch fire if they are left bundled or alone for too long on a high setting, I think the heat pads you’re talking about are microwaveable, not really electric

Phew no don’t use an electric blanket, water and electrics don’t mix, if they burry under pee pads and pee then they could get electrocuted or they may do a bit of chewing - same result.

If they are inside they should be fine as long as they have lots and lots of hay to sleep in x

I wouldn’t use one as it could be dangerous if your piggies were to chew it. You’re much safer to use snugglesafe microwaveable heat pads which are chew proof and safe for animals

ok lol my mistake I thought people were using actual heating pads :) I had an extra one lying around and figured i would ask , But the microwavable heating pads sound way better :) (and more energy efficient) I will definitely be checking those out. Thank you guys for the quick replys :D

microwave heat pads (snugglesafes) are fantastic. They stay warm for 10 hours and provide a warm area for piggies to lay on or near. I use them for my two boys and they love them. My two do live in my shed though so it is essential that they have heat pads (in fact they have four snugglesafes!) but indoor piggies can definitely benefit from them as well.

As an alternative, I use an electric heater in my room for when the house heating isn't on. It's only ever on the lowest setting and placed at the opposite end of the room to the pigs, indirectly heating them up that way. I would never aim it directly towards them but it certainly does the job at taking the chill away from my room

I think this is the closest thing to an electric blanket. It is on permanently but cheap to run and is indestructible. I love it as I don't have to worry about it going cold and having to replace pads

You could sit the cage on top of the blanket and have it on lowest setting- on a time switch just to come on for a few hours in morning.
