Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the Eglu Go for guinea pigs?

I'm sure I read that it was not ideal for guinea pigs to have a mesh under their feet (as the outdoor run section does).

Also, could I really leave them out in ALL weather in it?!

Are there any alternatives you could suggest? The wooden hutch I bought for them is flimsy, but I don't want to keep wasting money on rubbish!

Thanks

Hi , the iglo, ? do you mean the plastic things thy hide in ? if so they are great it gives them a place to feel safe
mesh runs are a no no as it is painfull on there little feet

personlaly l would not leave them out in all weathers , zoo zone type cages are ideal for indoor pigs
they are easy to clean and hijenic, no moald, no fungus , no bugs, , and they are usualy much cheaper than wooden huches

I have used the whole Eglu range for my chickens but I wouldn't use it for my piggies. For that amount of money you could get a nice solid hutch and even a cover. I think they work well for hens but not rabbits or guinea pigs. I don't like the wire on the floor and the run size for the guinea pig version is too small. In winter it would be too cold to go out in the run so they'd be left with very little space and you wouldn't be able to see them. If you're after a nice hutch try Rydale, Happy Hutch company or Welfare Hutches or search the forum for other recommendations.

Thank you! I shall do some more research and look up those companies ( or persuade my husband to get building!)! I looked after my friend's chickens over the holidays, and the Eglu was so brilliant for them. I wasn't sure about piggies though, and I think you're probably right. I wouldn't want them shut in such a small space over the winter.

I remember a thread on this a while back, personally I wouldn't use them, I think they could get too hot with there being plastic :)
