My piggy Berti keeps trying to take bites out of me every time i go to stroke him,

any ideas?

Erm, don't stroke him?! Seriously, Minty does that to me. He's playing the dominant male of the two at the moment so I don't know if it's because of that. Could also be a skin problem, but I don't see anything obvious on him. I'm going to the vets this week for nails etc so might try and slide a question in then!

Strange thing is, as soon as I try and touch him, he knocks my hand out of the way and has been known to go for me. It's been a gradual thing really - he used to only do it when I was holding him. All that aside, I can rest my hands inside the cage and he'll come up to see what's going on. He's been known to nibble then (but not bite) and yesterday he gave me kisses...silly boy! :smitten:

no this is aggression, he is after me, was on the phone to sammy this morning and even she could hear him clacking at me, I had only walked in the room, he has got a seriouse case of PMT, and i have done nothing to deserve it :(

None of mine have EVER tried to bite me ? They lick me but thats it ;D
maybe try and give him some veg outta your hand then stroke him ?

PMT is an understatement...sorry them ,possesed maybe..I've never heard a piggy do that >:D ;D well not till today

PiggyBaker my patchy did this.. and he wouldnt let me hold him... But just everyday hold him *sitting down!* just gently stroking him.. Berti will come through! He just needs some TLC!

When did you get Berti? If quite recently then he may be scared! If for a long time then he may still be scared, because your a giant in a guineas eyes :P!

Bertie is one of my mini pigs from when i used to breed, so i have had him for three years, he has got the ass with me over somethiing ?, not sure what, he has never done this before always loved being stroked, NOT held but stroked was never a prob, now he clackes his teeth at me if i get to close :'(

no although he is bombing round his cage, but went to talk to him and he head banged the cage in an effort to get to me, so i spoke to branston instead :(

Maybe you should get the vet to check him out ....just incase :-\

yes i think i will have to done the gardening gloves and have a peep and if i can't see anything , i think i will have to take the vet path!, but he is gobbling his food and water no probs so i can't see it is his teeth, but stranger things have happened

Anger management..seriously though I would take him, some things are not always obvious :'(

Awww hope he improves his temper. Maybe he has the start of a fungal as when Lennie had this he hated to be touched and chattered at me too. His skin was sore and ultra sensitive I imagine ;)

right thats it does anyone know where i can get a muzzle for a guinea ;D little buggar what a bad tempered little wipper snapper,

keeps turning his back on me, but he is chatting to branston at the mo

I know I shouldn't ...but he really makes me laugh ;D ;D

My boar Marvin did this to me once he was fully grown. If you put your piggy down again as soon as he bites you, he learns the lesson - if I bite, I get what I want (in this case to be left alone). So if I got bitten, I just played brave and continued to handle him, probably even more than if he hadnt nipped. So he learnt that nipping wouldnt get him ANYWHERE, so eventually he stopped.

If he is actually taking chunks out or drawing blood, and not just nipping, then put gloves on as suggested previously and keep handling him. He will still learn the lesson that biting doesnt make a difference, as in: you wont put him back into the cage no matter how hard he nips.

good luck!

no i think i will get my own back and when he bites me i will bite him back, eewwww i wonder what he will taste like ;D

OK picked the brat up and checked him over and he has a mild case of lice so have ivomected him but there is only a few on him i have seen much worse, surly this could not be the reason he is grumpy with me

The itchiness could have been irritating him!

I dont think ivomec is any good for lice, is it? I use lice n easy from GG :)

Ivermectin is a great source for most parasites but isnt needed for just lice O0
There are products out there for lice that doesnt need ivermectin like GG shampoo 0:)
