Hello there,
My beautiful girlie Serendipity is being treated for suspected econiculi. She has a dose of Panacur each evening. Her symptoms were a head tilt but then her whole body leaning over to one side. She has good days and not so good days. Today, she was very listless and leaning very far over. I sat her on a cool pad with me and gave her some metacam and syringed some water in. Her daughter Feather sat beside her for comfort and licked her all over. I honestly thought it was the end.... in 10 mins or so though, she had righted herself a little, had a small piece of cool carrot and was chirping at us as we gave her little cheek strokes.....
My question is, has anyone had an econiculi journey? Was it very up and down? Is there anything else the vet could prescribe to help her? Could it be more serious? Brain trauma? Stroke? At the last vet visit, we found that she is going blind in one eye too....😭. Seren is 4 and we love her so much. Just want to make sure we are doing everything we can.
Thanks for reading this long post.
P.s they are indoor piggies and are in the coolest room with cool packs etc.

I currently have at least 3 with E.cuniculi, it is absolutely a journey with ups and downs. My previous EC piggy lost the use of half her face due to nerve damage for a good few months and needed lots of syringe feeds, 2 of my current EC piggies are currently pretty symptom free, although all 20+ pigs I had at the time in March were given a 28 day panacur dose so they should still be covered by that. There's a good chance all of my pigs have it laying dormant.

1 of my EC pigs has a permenant head tilt and wobbly legs, but she manages very well. There's certainly ups and downs, but its just a case of getting the meds in, plenty of food and helping them with their mobility. If you're noticing neurological signs it might be worth asking for a trial course of gabapentin, I have a lethal white currently taking it for neurological issues and it's helped him no end!

You may also want to ask about an eye lubricant in the blind eye as they sometimes lose the ability to lubricate it themselves if it's due to nerve damage from EC.

Thank you so much for replying. I get so worried for her..... have her monthly check up next week so will ask about gabapentin. Hope your piggies are okay too. X
