I always have my two boar piggies under supervision when in their playpen and they are generally very good with their bedding. However I had to leave the room for a work call and came back to find their water bowl tipped upside down (which they have never done) and they had then gotten underneath the puppy pads I had laid down, and chewed the underneath.

I have attached pics to show the extent of it - I am freaking out a little! There seemed to be a gel like substance which I didn’t know was in the pad I have, and I am terribly worried that they have eaten this and that it may have done them harm. They both seem to be their normal selves; one is popcorning and pooping/weeing normally, but I need to take a closer look on the other in terms of poop/wee since this only just happened and I haven’t caught him do his business yet. They are both eating normally too. Should I feed them veggies/try encourage drinking to make them pass through whatever they have eaten, or would this make things worse? I have read previous threads on this topic and those piggies have thankfully been fine but I haven’t come across any regarding investing of the gel. Please any advice would be so appreciated and of course if you think this is serious enough for vet action I will get them down there straight away!

and also perhaps switch to weighing daily to ensure hay intake doesn’t drop for the next few days, just to be sure

Thank you both @VickiA and @Piggies&buns, they’re both still going about normally but I did call the vets as suggested for advice. They said it’s too early to tell but if they stop eating then to contact an emergency vet straightaway. Today is their weigh day anyway so I will keep a close eye on their weight each day now!

Hopefully whatever they ingested will do no harm and just pass out like hay does.

It might be worth looking into what the gel is made of, just to be on the safe side.

I can’t seem to find out exactly, but it’s a “super absorbent polymer” that converts liquid into gel. Both piggies have been right as rain all day thankfully!
