So earlier today, I noticed some irritation on the back of both my guinea pigs feet. It’s not severe to the point where I can’t treat it at home, but it’s definitely more irritated today and some skin is peeling. My vet did recommend using calendula cream which is what I have been using. Some people also recommend epsom salt soaks, while I’m going to start doing. I am curious to know however, if I can use any epsom salt brand or should it be a specific brand. I never did a foot sock before so I want to ensure it’s not going to be problematic for my piggies feet.

(I do constant spot cleanings in their cage, they are healthy weights with healthy diets, and I have them on fleece bedding with puppy pads underneath for extra absorption)

please any recommendations on what you believe works the best for treating bumblefoot. Thank you

I did also decide to give it a week and if I haven’t noticed any improvements I will be consulting with my veterinarian.

Does it look like the beginnings of an open sore? Or is the foot looking red? A photo would be helpful though bear in mind we can’t diagnose. The best thing is to get your piggy seen by the vet rather than home treating. I don’t know what brand of Epsom salts works but I assume they’re all the same.

It’s not an open soar. It’s red and some slight peeling but not an open soar and his front feet are not swollen

You are better off to go straight to the vet for any health concern than ever attempt any home treatment. Using any home treatments delays veterinary treatment which can mean it takes longer to actually deal with a medical issue
