My guinea has developed a small patch of white dry scale behind his ear. I have treated with 'spot on' ivermectin 3 days ago. No change yet. Could it be something else?
As we can’t see it we can only speculate and we aren’t vets in any case, but a white scaly patch immediately makes you think of a fungal infection such as ringworm. This means that self treating with ivermectin is the wrong thing to be using.
Please don’t attempt to home treat any condition.
Ivermectin should only be used when prescribed by a vet for a diagnosed parasite issue. The ivermectin products you can buy in pet shops are too low dosed to be effective.
Please have your piggy seen by a vet for diagnosis and the correct treatment.
This is our ringworm guide which will be useful to you should you get a ringworm diagnosis.
Please do give it a read as it explains the stringent hygiene required to prevent the infection spreading. Make sure you get your piggy’s cage mate checked as well given ringworm is highly infectious.
