my pig got his head tilt and shake his head while eating hard food such like pea flakes. i think it's ear infection because i found yellowish pus in his ear. he's on baytril 5% treatment as emergency help but it said it can be used for 3days only. what if he's still tilt his head on day 4? can i keep continue this treatment?

sorry but vet is really far from here

He needs to be treated for as long as needed as determined by a vet. I know it’s not easy for you, but we also cannot tell you how long treatment needs to be for.

However, an ear infection (bearing in mind you cannot self diagnose) is very painful, so antibiotics alone won’t be enough - he will need painkillers.
You will also have to keep up with home care - daily weight checks and syringe feeding a recovery feed. A piggy in pain is likely to stop eating enough

Hi

Please contact your vet again if there is no improvement and the pus and head tilt continue. Three days won't be enough to get on top of an infection. You an continue on bactrim/baytril for as long as needed aand the infection is going.

If your vet is not experienced with guinea pigs, then the information via this link here should help both them and you. It contains lists of safe and unsafe medications for guinea pigs as well how to compute safe dosages for guinea pigs, which are a species that needs much higher dosages for their body weight than other pets.

All About Syringe Feeding and Medicating Guinea Pigs with Videos and Pictures

Please monitor the weight. Any ear infection is very painful. Both the pain and the antibiotic can impact on the appetite. Guinea pigs are prey animals that cannot fast. They need to continue to eat ideally hay/grass fibre (which makes over three quarters of what a guinea pig needs to eat in a day) but you can soak pellets or dry mix in some warm water or at the very worst - if that is not available - feed vegetarian baby food, which is less than ideal but better than starving. You monitor the food intake with some cheap kitchen scales. The poos will tell you how much or little your guinea pigs has eaten one or two days ago but your guinea pig can lose a lot more weight in the meantime. That is why weighing first thing in the morning for best day-to-d comparison is so important for looking after an ill guinea pig.
