Hi! I recently brought a new Guinea Pig into my home for my grieving pig. She is pretty young only a few months old I believe. I currently just dealt with a very sick pig (who has passed).

I started noticing when you stroked her head around her ears she would shake her head. She does it for both. But the right she definitely seems flinch and move away from you.

I’ve been doing research and found ear infections and that it usually means they have ear infections when they shake there head. I looked inside of ears and it just seems a little bit dirty and brown.

Is it just because she is a baby? Should this be a cause for concern? Ear infections are deadly and I wanna get her into a vet as soon as possible if so. Am I just paranoid because I don’t wanna have more pain on my plate of a sick pig? Please help.

It might just be because she doesn’t want to be touched by her ears and is trying to stop you from touching her, but it’s best to have a vet check her over

Mine don't want their ears touched at all! They do ear flicking and head shaking when I touch - this is completely normal. My long-haired one gets waxy ears: not from infection because she has been checked over - she just gets a hot sweaty head and sometimes little lumps of wax hang like earrings... how attractive! I have to try and gently remove these to keep her ears clean but - it tickles her when I touch the hairs in the ears 😅
It is a good thing to get a vet check on a new piggy anyway, but if she only does this shaking and flinching when you touch her ears I wouldn't be worried. If she does it when she's not being touched that's more of a concern.

Okay! Thank you so much. I’m just so paranoid. I wanted to make sure she was okay. Google always says the worst case scenario. Thanks for your help!
