A duvet or Hutch Snuggle?
Which one would you use for a hutch that's in a shed during the winter months?
Is the Scratch & Newton Hutch Snuggle* worth it or do you think a duvet will do the same job, for a fraction of the price? . . . hmm.

* It can also be used in the summer to keep hutches cool though . . . ?/

last year i used a duvet over the hutch in the shed :) worked well :) had plastic sheeting all around the back to keep out draughts.

I made my pigs a hutch snuggle with foil bubble wrap insulation from B&Q. It worked out less than £12 (for a double hutch) and it made from almost the exact same stuff as the Scratch & Newton one ;)

I just cut the pieces to fit and stuck it together with duck tape :)

I wonder if a snuggle AND duvet would work ?/

that sounds good.. i find the scratch and newton ones very pricey @) my hutches are outside and all I have is a plastic cover i put over and night and when it rains.. they also have plenty of blankets,straw and 2 snugglesafes.. but how do you make a hutch snuggle and keep it waterproof? I wouldnt know where to begin by making one. :{

I did buy a scrath and newton one, yes it was pricey but fits lovely and looks nice:red

I have got fleece under it and an old runner too, there are lots of photos around showing how people make their hutches nice and warm for these winter months.

do you also use hay? which straw do you use? as full straw cant be given only chopped straw! straw also has no nutritional value in it either its only used to keep them warm, where hay is needed all times...

I had a scratch and newton hutch snuggle last year and it was really good. Since then, I have adopted 2 more pigs so I had to buy a new hutch so the snuggle went off to its new home along with the hutch.

Scratch and Newton do not do a cover in my hutch size so I used the B&Q bubble insulation (Little Piggles has already pointed this out) and have stapled it all over the hutch. On top of this is a hutch hugger which I brought with the hutch.

I also use a thick fleece blanket to cover the front of the hutch at night.

The only thing that puts me off using a duvet is if it gets damp. My girls are outdoors though. A duvet over a hutch in a shed I imagine to work just as well as a snuggle :)

To Curlycritter: A piece of tarpaulin over the hutch works well as a waterproof cover. My girls have a hutch at my parents house for when we go and visit and we just use clear tarpaulin over that one :)

YES! that is all i use straw for is as bedding! they always have hay 24/7 they have fresh hay everyday morning and evening.. But Straw is only used for their bed area..
