Hi Folks,
My daughters GP has suddenly become lethargic and uninterested in anything, shes stopped squeaking and is just not happy. Shes usually very vocal and and loves her food, and would run around her cage and shout at me in a morning for her breakfast. :)
She is 5 years old ( I think as we were given her 2 years ago). Please help as she is part of our family.
Thx

The best thing to do if she is not eating or moving around much is to go to the vets. They should be able to diagnose any condition she may have, and they should give you (if they don't request it) Critical Care or Science Recovery, which is a type of powder food which can be mixed with water and syringe fed to the guinea.

I agree with the above. Also syringe water hourly so she doesn't dehydrate.

welcome to the forums from me and the girls from oz :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: has anything changed for dumpling like in diet, bedding, lost a friend etc? could it be heat related? i would take to the vet for check up make sure it is a piggy savy vet O0 you could mashed up pellets in food processor or coffee grinder and boil water and let cool and add to the pellets and add 2-3 teaspoons of baby puree food like sweetcorn and mix together into a paste and syringe feed. use pellets like oxbow that is good for piggies. you could also syringe boiled water that has cooled to dumpling especially if it is hot. good luck O0 may dumpling is depressed and might want a piggy friend. or she might be having teeth problems so take to a vet for a check up and then look into a rescue for a friend and let dumpling pick out a friend. good luck and keep us posted O0 sending hugs and healing vibes for dumpling :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

So sorry to hear about Dumpling not being well. Wonder if it can be anything like one of my piggies has got at the moment - she's not got a runny nose or any outward siigns but when you get close to her you can hear her breathing isn't right - she sounds like she has a bronchial infection which I'm hoping the baytril will cure. :-\

Yep, Starla's got it right. Vet is best thing to see if it is an infection and get the antibiotics going. Just remeber to use probiotics with antibiotics. Or, at this guinea pigs age it could be a heart problem that needs a diuretic, OR a teeth problem, etc. Lots of possibilities. Critical Care is great for keeping them going during these times. Also, remember to give extra vitamin C. You can mix it with some water or room temp chamomile tea and give it with a glass dropper.
