Hey guys! I need help. I realize that my pig’s right ear has cracked skin. I’m not sure exactly why! Does anybody recognize this and any potential treatments?

Could I treat it with anti fungal solutions and cream?

Please do not home treat on spec - you could be treating the wrong thing or make things worse.
We will never advise on any such treatments due to the risks involved.

Please go to a vet for a proper diagnosis and then to be prescribed the correct treatment.

Should this turn out to be a ringworm fungal infection, then a topical cream isn’t the effective way to treat it and risks prolonging the infection.

Hi

We cannot diagnose sight unseen and without a hands-on diagnosis nor are we legally allowed with much stricter regulations here in the UK where our forum is based.

But if that turns out to be ringworm then dabbing on some mild pet shop products on spec that don't take care of the spready of thousands of long-lived highly infectious and species jumping spores to restart the cycle again and again. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you whether it is ringworm you are dealing with but while it is not fatal, never underestimate the sheer hassle of it if you try to treat on the cheap and ending up paying a lot more in the end - at the cost of long running discomfort for your piggies.

If it turns out to be ringworm (the most aggressive form of a fungal skin infection that can also jump to humans and other pet species), please follow our very specific and practical ringworm guide. It does really work when done properly since we are addressing all possible transmission angles (which we have found the hard way) to not only stop the acute spore producing ringworm patches, which appear 10-14 days after the actual infection) but also prevent new patches from forming and getting on top of the spores once and for all. It is some hassle - but it is well worth the temporary effort in view of a long running saga otherwise.

If your piggies are newly bought please take a video with a piece of paper with the date on it in the picture so you have a legal basis to claim any treatment and vet cost from the pet store.

Here is our ringworm guide, an overwiew of skin problems and information on your customer rights if they apply.
