Hi, I got my skinny pig 2 days ago and noticed her skin has dry patches. I'm worried that it's ringworm so have been washing my hands and haven't introduced her to my other 2 yet.

Sorry the photos aren't great, she's very nervous. Does this look like it could be fungal? She had little scratches on her back where the dry skin is so bit sure if that's what caused the dry skin.

I don't know what she was fed on before but she now gets selective grain free nuggets with a varied amount of veg.

I'm not gonna pretend I'm a skinny expert but that doesn't look like normal "dry" skin for a skinny to me. I'd get her vet checked, that first photo she's also looking a little underweight as well.

I would definitely see a vet as her skin is not normal for a skinny pig. Mine get occasional dry patches but nothing as extensive as this. I also agree with @Lorcan that she looks a little underweight.

Thank you all for your messages, I will register her at the vet and get her checked. These pics are from today, I have insecticide shampoo for guineas, is it worth giving her a little bath till I get an appointment?

I wouldn't - if it is fungal it wouldn't make a difference and her skin's really not great as it is, it could possibly make it worse. She's lovely though, hopefully whatever it is you can get on top of it quickly.

:agr:

Don’t do anything like bathe her. It hides the tell tale signs a vet would need to make a diagnosis and it can potentially do more harm than good.
Always see a vet first and never try any home treatments

Great thank you, I will leave her as she is and ring the vet in the morning.

Do you think it looks fungal or just dry skin? I'm just worried that my son cuddled our Guinea pigs wearing the same clothes he was wearing when we got this little one, getting paranoid they could catch something.

I can only compare to my own pair, and if their skin was as hers is, I'd be getting a vet check. It definitely doesn't look like "normal" skinny skin.

We cannot tell you whether it is fungal or not but I would be assuming it is unless proven otherwise - err on the side of caution!

Great thanks, my last skinny never had anything like this either. I've only seen pics of ringworm in Guinea pigs not a skinny. Hair loss is a good indication so obviously not helpful in a skinny haha.

I've a skinny pig that has had ringworm and it does look similar.i would not treat yourself,as it can make situation worse.
Skinnies have very sensitive skin.i took Samantha to the vet recently,as had, discoloured pigmentation, it looked similar to ringworm,my exotic vet stated it was an aging thing of skinny pigs.
