Hi y’all, I’ve been noticing for the last few days that whenever I put coconut oil on my Skinny pig, Poe, her skin almost seems to rub off? It doesn’t seem to hurt her at all, it really just looks like it’s dry skin that’s coming off her, but I’m not sure if this is normal. She’s the only skinny pig I’ve ever seen, and according to my vet, they’re not very common in my area.
I’m planning on speaking to my vet about this when I take her in for her recheck appointment soon (She’s had issues with one of her eyes since I got her, which seems to be clearing up, thank god), but I figured I come on here and ask you all as well.

I hope you found out what her skin problem, hoping it’s not anything to worry about and her eye is better too 🤞

I'm afraid I can't help, sorry :( it's not something I've seen on either of mine, and I'd be wary of putting anything topical on without speaking to a vet. Too easy, especially there, to get something in the eye that shouldn't - especially if she's had eye issues anyway.

(she is beautiful though )

Yes I also would say avoid putting anything on the skin if there is no clunical need. Coconut oil would remove the skin's natural oils, which do an excellent job of keeping the skin healthy without any need for extra products. Our skinny pig never needed any skin care products, she had gorgeous chocolate skin, naturally oily and a bit grubby just as nature intended!

I don't put anything on the skin of my skinny pigs. Their skin is naturally oily. However, I do bath Dora occasionally as she has an overactive grease gland and ends up with a a greasy black layer all over her back. If I notice she is scratching I give her a bath.
