Dry skin for certain color pigs?

Hi everyone, I noticed today that both of my pigs with black and orange coloring seem to have more dry skin/dandruff than any other pigs. I’ve have three others and none of them seem to have. Upon further inspection I noticed that the flakes and dry patches seem to be more in the orange parts of their fur on their backs. I’ve done the whole guinea pig lice thing (not a fun experience at all😬) so I know what that looks like and what to look for. This definitely seems to be dry skin or dandruff. Has anyone else noticed this with their pigs, it’s really only in the orange parts of their fur and on their backs? Very strange. Any tips on what to do for it? Thanks in advance🙂

Hi

Please keep an eye for potential skin parasites of which 'dry skin' is very often the first sign. Don't be tempted to home treat on spec with too low dosed pet shop products as they can only temporarily suppress any skin parasites but not get rid of them, so they are very much a false economy.

Please also accept that we can only guess and not diagnose by remote.

Hm, I read the article and I’m not so sure it’s any of those things. The reason why I say this is because one of my boys (Ace) who I’ve had since he was small has always on and off had this problem, especially during the winter months. I’ve also asked his vet about this and she also seems to think it’s dry skin. I just think it’s very odd that both of my orange boys seem to have it in their orange patches. I will definitely watch them very closely for any signs of something else though. Thank you for your advice and help🙂 I so appreciate all of the help, advice, and support you guys offer on here. It’s really a lifesaver when it comes to understanding these piggies and all of the things that come along with them☺️💗

I would definitely keep an eye on it. I'm not sure that it would be connecting to skin color at all (anecdotally, the only one of my pigs who had some skin issues was 90% white fur, with some lilac and tan thrown in.)

Your pigs do look like they could be my pig's brothers, though, I love the coloring!
