Percy has been on Baytril since last Monday (suspected testicle infection)but even before that I noticed he has dry poop. This is still the case but he is eating Normally and seems fine. I am going to the vet with him a week in Monday. He is definitely not dehydrated as I bottle feed him every eve ( his brother hogs the water bottle so I have to) and he has fresh veggies. What could be going on? I have some Benebac do you think it’s worth a try? image.webp

Hi, I am not an expert but my understanding is that as well as killing off the infection, antibiotics also kill off the good bacteria in the gut and can cause issues such as diarrhoea and misshapen faecal pellets.
I hope Percy is better soon!

It’s advisable to give a probiotic while they are on antibiotics as it can help settle the digestion.

Do you only have one bottle in the cage? It would be advisable to have two bottles, so the other piggy cannot hog both.

I have two but they both want the same one! It’s unbelievable. Is Benebac ok with Baytril and how much do I give? X

Yes benebac is fine but it’s not one I’ve used (it seems to be widely used in the US but seemingly not so much here) so don’t know the dosages. It should say on the packaging though.

It is strange how they prefer the one bottle. I've had this with different pairs a few times. I've swapped the bottle positions and they sill prefer the one position so it's not the bottle. I did find adding a 3rd bottle helped with some pairs. Guinea pigs are such funny little things!
I hope your boy gets better soon.
