Hey everyone. I’m doing dry-anuary this year. Mainly because I have a major operation on the 16th January 2024 and will be on lots of pain medication. lf anyone wants to do dry-anuary with me is the thread for motivation.

I did dry-October. That was a breeze.

I wouldn’t say I drink a lot but……

If someone invites me out it’s usually for drinks and maybe a small meal (mainly drinks). 😝

It does become a “normal” so it’s good to occasionally stop just because you can. My parents drink a lot of alcohol so I want to stop when I want too.

I can get that. My parents would both sit and insist they don't drink that much, no drinking problem whatsoever, but the majority of their evenings finish up with a half bottle, full bottle, whatever, of wine. And they don't even bat an eyelid. It's just normal for them, like me refusing to drink bucks fizz (and instead just asking for orange juice) as a 16yr old was "refusing to get into the Christmas spirit" and "trying to make trouble".

...that sounds like a whine. It's not! Just that I get it.

I'd love to join you but I would be cheating if I did. I haven't had a drink for years. I didn't mean to give up completely but my partner suddenly developed some serious food intolerances and gave up drinking so I joined him and haven't looked back.

Good luck everyone who joins in.

What is normal for one isn’t necessarily normal for another. I get that.

I wish I didn’t drink anything. I really do. But sometimes I just want a drink. I just feel I have to be careful. So doing a month off means I feel in control 👍🏻

I've slipped in to a drink a night over the Christmas period. Not ready to go dry yet (I have a highly emotional 3 year old and a nearly 5 month old) but I do plan to cut back to just weekend drinks again

I’ve had several alcoholic drinks each evening over the Xmas period. But I go months without drinking any alcohol at all so this is rather an unusual phase. Once I’ve finished the “Christmas” drinks I’ll go back to drinking soft drinks again. I do know that alcohol disrupts my sleep so it will be good to go back to normal again in January.

I don't drink enough to attempt it, it'd be too much like cheating, but I know how difficult some of these things can be. You got this one!

Same here - I only drink a glass or two on special occasions once every few months but I am keeping my fingers crossed for you! I am horrible with sugar, though...
