Why do guinea pigs eat there dropings?
Is it good for them because that's what I read in an book and one of my friends told me that too? :smitten:

You may see your pig bending down and munching on something and that is poo! It's called coprophagy. They don't eat the hard droppings that they drop around the cage but the moist ones. The protein content is important for pigs so that's why they do it. :)

The special pellets contain vitimin B12 complex and other nutrients,.

You might see them nudging at each others bottoms sometimes, they're just trying to get them first ::) ;D ;D
I believe also from what i've been told that if you have a piggie who's not well and not been eating properly to encourage them to eat their cage mates poops O0

I used to wonder why thy never ate poop off the floor but they are too hard for them! Urgh nice talk this! ;D

If you are syringe feeding a gp it is a good idea to mash some of the larger, shinier pellets into the feed.

Urgh Mary yuk! ;D But yep good idea, the thing we have to do! :)

Yep, it contains vitmains and minerals that were not absorbed during digestion as well as helping to maintain their good bacteria balance that is so important for guinea pig digestion and survival.

xx0 xx0 xx0 glad humans don't eat their own poo ;D

Yeap, I have read that they eat their own droppings, but in moderation, and it helps with their digestion.

I have also read ... I reckon I have read every guinea pig book ever written :embarassed: ... that if you have a sick piggie, then mash up some pellets of a healthy piggie with some warm water and syringe feed the poorly one.

I have to admit I have never done that, but I have been tempted as I have a poorly aging male called Joey who doesn't have normal pellets of his own anymore. In fact I have to help him each day to empty his bowels :o (but I love him :smitten:) so obviously he isn't getting the vitamins he would have normally. The day is coming though that I do it! :)

When I have mine out for cuddle time, they bend over, pick the poo's from their bum and munch on them. Yummy

Do you think that is as good as a egg fried rice and a house special curry on a Saturday evening? ? ;D ;D
