Hello,
I have an appointment with an exotic vet for my Finn but I wanted to post before we go to see the exotic vet.
My Finn is nearly 7 yo, and has always been eating well and healthy. Just the other day, I noticed hair around his mouth is wet, but he hasn't stopped eating and eats well as he has always done. He just had several blueberries, romaine lettuce and looked for more blueberries.

As he got older, he sleeps more deeply and soundly. He is very trusting and will sleep out in the open when I am around.
He doesn't show any signs of pain in any way and eats very well. Could his old age be affecting his sleep so he sleeps even deeper and he is drooling during his deep sleep?

I am sure the vet will out if anything is wrong, but shouldn't I point out something other than his drooling? I mean he eats very well.

I've packed some romaine lettuce and blueberries so he can have them at the vet's office.

Ready to go see the vet, lettuce and blueberry, check!

Drooling is usually something that is wrong with the teeth that causes them to not swallow properly, could be something else also like an infection or throat abscess. Weigh him daily to make sure he is eating properly, he could be eating less without you knowing. Glad he is going to the vet tomorrow, hope to all turns out good.

I had to cancel the appointment because I saw him standing in front of the water bottle and letting the water drop on his hair near his mouth. He stood in front of the water bottle then pressed himself against the water bottle making the water to fall on him. He then proceeded to eat more Oxbow hay after he got himself all wet.
He also ran away when I tried to get him to go to the vet with me. After he ran away from me, he ate some more Oxbow hay. He already had his romaine lettuce and some blueberry. He wanted some more blueberry but I stopped at 4 because they were big blueberries.

He wasn't drooling. He hasn't lost any weight because he eats all day, then sleep soundly, then go back to eating some more.

When I called the vet to cancel, they all laughed because initially, the nurse said to check to see if Finn wasn't doing anything funny around the water bottle. I told them Finn was pressing himself onto the water bottle making himself all wet.
They know Finn eats very well, and hasn't lost any weight. He also doesn't show any signs of illness.

My Finn didn't want me to bother him when he is enjoying his hay, so he ran away from me when I tried to take him to the vet.
Here is Finn, enjoying his Oxbow hay.

Glad for you that it was just Finn playing with the water bottle - and that you noticed in time.
Drooling would be a symptom of mouth problems such as overgrowing teeth pressing on the gums or cheek, or oral thrush. But both of those would be accompanied by eating less and losing weight - when my 7 year old boar had oral thrush his fur got soaked and he lost 200g.

Thanks. Good to know!
It was him eating constantly that threw me off. I chased him around to take him to the vet, but he ran away to eat some more Oxbow hay. He acted like he wanted me to leave him alone to eat his hay. He has always loved his Oxbow hay, and I see him munching on it all day.

Oh Finn. You’ve had a very lucky escape. No more water bottle mayhem or you’ll be off to the vets.

True. I packed a nice lunch box all filled with his favorites, blueberry and romaine lettuce, to take to the vet‘s office. I also filled a pet carrying cage with Oxbow hay, his favorite toys, and water.
Aww he has his slave well trained 😂
