So...after the long story here with Bastiana, in older threads regarding dental issues that we finally got to treat/solve; she got back to eating, but now seems to be drinking lots of water (got my attention) and very lethargic, some apathy showing. Seems to be scared all the time, keeps in hiding and pretty still most of the time. She's not gaining weight, but it's not losing either. Still eating pellets, hay (maybe not that much) and fresh grass (but is slowly showing not much interest). Now, I'm afraid she might start losing weight again. She's pretty much on the edge for female piggies (740g). Her sister is weighing 950g-1000g. It's the opposite, really.
So, any clues what might be happening to Basti? This water intake may reveal diabetes, kidney problems, dental issues and lots of things, as I read, but what's the most common issue? Will a blood sample be able to tell what she has, if it's a kidney problem or diabetes?
The thing with Basti is that whenever we start examining her, taking her to the vet and removing from the cage, I mean altering her routine at all, the chances of her becoming more scared, still and not eating increase. So, I think what I'm hoping for is a clear shot, spot on the underlying problem.
Any advices? I strongly appreciate! What would you guys do?
Thanks in advance! <3

Have you discussed with the vet if maybe you could collect a urine sample at home to take in to the surgery for some basic urine tests? A urine test can suggest if there are kidney problems or diabetes, not definitively but it will give some clues before she sees the vet.
To collect urine you just pop her in a clean plastic bowl or tub or pet carrier and wait til she pees- if you ask the vet and they agree to this then they can give you a container to pop the urine in and take it straight to the clinic- maybe that's a first stage compromise that can be done from home?
But ultimately you will need a hands on examination, maybe a blood test or ultrasound scan, these will need doing after the urine tests before anything conclusive is found.

So, first the urine test, then the blood and ultrasound? I thought the blood sample would be the first option to better determine if there are kidney problems or diabetes. I got ill these days and couldn't be here to check the answers, but now that I'm recovered, I'll look into that.
For these days when I didn't take action, I was kinda looking for what NOT to do, for example. If there's an underlying kidney problem or diabetes, what should I NOT do? Is fresh grass somehow something that can worsen the problem? What vegetables? Or what else can be given in order to help her...
But she's hanging on, I think I'll just schedule the vet and get these samples going.
If there's any news, I'll keep you posted here for some more advice. Thanks for the answer.

Hi I'm going through a similar issue right now
I saw the vet today and she is treating for the most probable issue first (urinary infection) and then if nothing has changed in a week we will move onto other options

I would reccomend you get a urine sample day of the appotiment so your vet can test it there and then

Hope this turns out well for you and your piggie
