Hi everyone,

not sure if this thread is in the right section or not, sorry if it's not!

I got a new piggie on Sunday, (it's now Tuesdayn) my piggie is very shy and timid, the previous owner said he was extremely friendly and likes to bury himself, at the minute he barely comes out of his house and he hasn't a drink of water from his bottle at All! I started to worry and tried making him drink through a syringe and this worked. anyone have any ideas why he isn't using his bottle?

I am assuming his shyness is just because it's a new surroundings. I plan to introduce him to my other boar who is also extremely friendly once my new piggie is settled but can't help worry that he isn't drinking.

anyone had this issue before or have ideas how I can resolve it?

thank you!

ps thought I'd upload a photo because who doesn't like to look at cute piggies!

What a stunner! He is probably drinking during the night etc, but u can offer him extra cucumber to be sure hes getting enough fluid. You coukd try pitting the bottle nearer his hidey too. You will probably find he'll come right out lf his shell when he has a buddy if the bonding is sucesful. Good luck!

Ps always admired silver agouti's! Agoutis in general! I unsuspectingly ended up with a half agouti.. Literally only down one half of her body haha the other side is white with darker brown :-)

Shes still just a little piggy, extremely nervous and making slow but good progress!

Have you offered him veg? You could put water on the veg so he's being hydrated that way too, and give him lots of veg with high water content.. Cucumber, watermelon :) I hope it all goes alright for you! I was worried about my boy not drinking enough too, but all is well now! Good luck ❤️

my other piggies eat a load of different variety of veg but he only seems interested in lettuce he won't go near anything else so I've been soaking the lettuce in water so he getting some that way.

I'll see how he goes.

thank you!

that's what I was hoping but his bottle hasn't gone down at all, I looks like he is a little confused by it he looks at it and then walks away!

he actually comes it his house when my other boy has floor time and follows him round in his cage which is always a good thing!

she is lovely! super cute!

this will hopefully be his playmate if they get along!

Some piggies also come out when the humans aren't about until they settle in, you could try a bowl as well. Sorry if that's been mentioned, not the best with my concentration.

I've got a guinea that drinks LOADS but that's probably because he has a kidney stone, I've also got guinea's that don't drink much at all. It just varies from piggy to piggy I think :)

that makes me feel little better!
I will put a bowl in when I'm there as I don't want him to tip it and get everything wet! hopefully he is just a little shy at the minute.

thanks!

No problem :) I hope it works. We're having to do it for an hamster at the moment because I never see the little so and so drink lol.
