Can anyone recommend a drinking bottle to use with my indoor cage? The bars are just basically horizontal rather than in a grid, so I find the ordinary bottles that fix on with wire are no good, and the bottle I've got now, which fixes on with a sort of plastic clip and ring, keeps falling off!

I'm afraid I can't help yo with a new bottle. I use fuse wire to keep my bottles in place, as the wire they come with drives me mad. Could you use wire (or elastic bands, as suggested above, if they can't reach to chew them) to keep the bottle in place?

sorry i meant i use the wire they come with and then higher up the cage i use and elastic band to stabilise the bottle

i have bottles on my chinchilla cages (horizontal bars) which come with a special nin slip kinda clip that the bottle then attaches to, keeps the bottle in place, but i'll be damned if i know where they came from! shall have a search online for you :)

edit - not found the one i have yet but did come across this

Hi i use a velcro strap, bought them to keep my computer cables tidy but they work really well at holding waterbottles too.
Opps ment to add i have put a cable tie underneith for the mettal nozzle to rest on, not really needs but adds security.

Some great tips on this thread!

While we are on the subject of bottles, does anyone know a good bottle that doesnt leak? As mine always seem to - I just buy the clear ones with red lids from PAH at the mo, Supa Classic maybe, but they seem to drip a lot.

Thanks

Thanks for all the suggestions. On a visit to the garden centre this afternoon I came across a "Sippy" which I decided to try. This seems a much better fit on my indoor cage but I'm still waiting to see if Elsie and Tessa like it and whether it drips as much as the ordinary bottles.

If your Sippy bottle doesn't work out, we have one of these bottles..

The 'nozzle' end sits in a kind of cradle which is held onto the bars with two hooks. The main body of the bottle is held in place with a clip which is kinda like a spring with a clip on either end. (A bit like a bungee)

The spring fits into a notch in the bottle so it doesn't slide around. The bottle has a flat back so it sits flush to the inside of the cage too. As it's glass/metal it's completely chew proof

(I hope that make sense - it's kinda hard to describe!)

Oh and there's a cute mini rubber duck which shows easily how much water is left! xx>>>

The Sippy turned out to be an absolute disaster! It fitted onto the cage really great but over a couple of hours (while my piggies were having out of cage time) it completely emptied itself onto the cage floor, soaking everything! Perhaps I've just got a duff one, I don't know.

Does it drip much or not too bad? I love the duck!

Not sure if you meant the sippy, or the one we use...so I'll answr just in case :) Ours doesn't drip much at all. It has only let me down once (but I don't think the top was fastened on properly, so probably my fault!)

Yours :) (the one with the duck :) ) so thanks for the info, I think I will buy one next time I am at PAH - it also looks dishwasher proof as it's glass, which will be good. Thanks!

what make was your sippy? non of mine have ever leaked, did you assemble it properely (i once made the mistake of not shoving the nozzle in properely, then it emptied itself! or if its to close to the floor and a piece of woodshaving/hay gets jammed under the ball it could also leak?!)

I have one of these and I love it. Eric likes to pull it about when he wants breakfast. I bought it cos i fell for the duckie! (careful though, the duckie sometimes sticks to the top fooling you into thinking there's more water left than there is)

Ok I have ordered one online now, yay!

Has anyone tried dishwashering them? I did a plastic bottle once and it melted :o
