Freela
Senior Guinea Pig
When it rains, it pours! I have both pigs booked for back-to-back vet visits today at 3... Leela has had on-and-off eye problems since she was a baby and they are on again right now... her one eye is crusty and she has some fur loss at the lower inner corner, though the eye itself does not look irritated. She's had eye drops in the past and I'm sure she'll get them again. And Hadley has what I think is early bumblefoot... she tends to get red feet anyhow and we put some Polysporin on the soles intermittently, but her right front foot looks puffy starting yesterday. I feel terrible... I've never dealt with bumblefoot before and I thought it was something I could avoid by nail trimming, keeping the bedding clean, not using mesh, etc. All I can think of as the cause is that she is on the older side (6 years and 3 months), does not move around as much as she used to, even though she has a good sized cage and free run of the hall every evening, and could probably stand to lose some weight.
Hadley also has a couple of cysty-feeling bumps that will get checked out, although they are long-standing without any change.
Anyhow, wish me luck. Because of the pandemic I can't go in and have to wait in the car... I feel bad handing them off and not being there for the appointment. This is the first time I've had to go to the vet during the pandemic and although I know it's necessary, I don't like not being in the room!
