Hi, finally got itrafungal for my 2 girls. One is 1.1kg so we're giving her 0.5ml, the other is around 900 so would that be 0.4ml? The syringe and dosage the vet gave was in kgs, but the syringe was too big for pigs so I'm using 1ml syringes i have at home and just wanted to double check I'm getting it right.
Going to do it for 6 weeks, 3 weeks on and 3 off, with a bath in a weeks time and maybe another at the end of treatment too? With disinfecting everything too with f10. Does this sound like a good plan?

If it's .5mL/kg, then the 1.1kg piggy's dose would be .55mL, and the 900g piggy's dose would be .45mL. You could potentially draw additional lines onto your syringe if it's only marked to tenths or if reading hundredths is difficult when measuring. If you can't get that precision, then consult with your vet whether it's better to be to the high or low side (only the vet can speak to whether you're at greater risk of toxicity or inefficacy).

Thank you so much 👍😊

Hi
The correct itrafungol dosage is 0.05 ml per hundred grams of body weight (i.e. a 1 kilo piggy will need 0.5 ml once daily). Your girls will require 0.55 ml and 0.45 ml respectively. A 1 ml syringe is indeed better for a correct dosage in my own experience.

With itrafungol one bath at the end of treatment is sufficient in order to remove any spores stuck loosely in the coat that they can pick up when sleeping or scent marking. In this case, the bath doesn't need to be antifungal; it is simply there to prevent your piggies carrying anything across on their own body to cause a new outbreak that cannot be reached with oral treatment.

The systemic fungal treatment deals very effectively with everything in direct touch of the body. Acute symptoms in otherwise fully healthy will generally stop by the end of the first week but they can last longer with drailer guinea pigs or guinea pigs with weaker/overloaded immune system and underlying health issues.

All the best!
