Alyson's (PiggyPal) pig Dory is staying with me for a week while she's on holiday. His operation to remove a nasty big abcess went well yesterday and he's been eating and pooing nicely today.

I'm going to put daily photos on here so Alyson (and anyone else) can see how he's getting on!

This was taken this afternoon. He was v eager to jump off my lap for a round around the floor :)

Little hairs growing back already! :)

AWW - poor boy! That is a proper war wound! But I am glad to hear that the op has gone well and that Dory is bouncing back!

Awww bless him, glad he's on the road to recovery, and i hope its a speedy one too! :) Still a handsome boy with his little wound though :)) Get well soon Dory!

Thanks everyone and thanks so much to Sarah who has come to the rescue looking after the poor fella while i'm away. Doesn't it look horrible! He's scratchin it a bit as he's obviously itchy and i dont blame him. Hope to see it clearing up over the next wheek :)) thanks hon x

Aww, he is such a sweetie and what a rather big gash he has there too. He's obviously a very brave boy. Sending him even more speedy recovery wishes. xx

My goodness - that's a bigwound and well done - he is looking really well.

Suggest you keep him on his own for the next few days in a relatively confined space......and deffo keep a lookout from Day 4onwards - as that is when the itching will start and he may well nibble/rip off his stitches (says she speaking from experience)

Pm me if this happens my vet has a cunning "medical device" to stop this happening again

x

Glad he's doing well! That's about the size of Linney's abscess removal scar, except hers is on her tailbone. It seems like a heck of an incision on a little piggie, doesn't it? Hope he recovers in no time!

Thanks everyone - intrigued as to the vet's cunning medical device Pebble ;) xx

Ah poor lttle dory,it looks really sore, hope dory has a speedy recovery,x,sue;)

Sorry, today's message is a bit late...
Yes, it's a huge wound :( but he's been a v brave boy. He's had another good day and is eating really well now.

Doesn't seem to be quite so itchy today, will see what happens when it starts healing more. Am also v curious to know what your vet's solution is, pebble!

Here he is showing off his wound again

and here he's showing you how well he's eating

I'm getting v fond of him, so no need to hurry back, Alyson :)
Can't believe how vocal he is... I thought Rita was loud but think he beats her. He started squeaking at the vacuum cleaner last night and set all the others off :(|)

Have whole afternoon to myself tomorrow so will get some more photos on here

Awwww... he's cute as anything! Looks like he's doing well! Linney actually didn't do too much scratching around her incision... maybe between four and seven days post-op she would do a little bit of biting at it, but nothing that did any damage and it was easy to distract her to something else, usually a carrot or some lettuce! It did take awhile for the incision to fully heal... probably a bit over a month before it was reduced to a scar. It looks as though your vet has stitched it a bit differently though... Linney's stitches were all buried (nothing showing at the surface) because it supposedly makes them harder for the piggie to pull out the stitches. But it seemed to leave more of a scar and make it heal slower than it would have with more conventional stitches. At any rate, I'm just glad she made it through everything relatively unscathed... and since she's part silkie, I doubt we'll even see the scar once her fur fully grows back in.

Ahhhh that photo of him at the bowl is sooooo cute! I miss him and the girls :)p glad he's good. He can obviously smell the girlies, he' s a v horny guy!
Freela, apparently dory has stitches on the inside and outside! Do you have any photos of Linney's wound?:) xx

Here's a close-up of Dory's wound earlier this afternoon (Sunday):

It feels hard now and is starting to scab over. I still catch him scratching occasionally but he doesn't seem to be causing it any harm. The fur is growing back more too now.

I promised Alyson I'd also post photos of the two pregnant girlies she's looking after for our local rescue, Betty and Gloria. Poor things, Gloria is so small, she can't be v old at all.

Here they are tucking into one of many 9p lettuces I found in Morrisons last night

Betty's bulges

Because they're both pregnant, I'm seeing if I can pair them up with my two girls, Shirley and Rita. Here are all four together (I think that's Gloria hiding in the background?)

Shirley and Betty are the bossiest, so I'm going to try and pair up Betty with Rita:

And finally here's Dory again (who wants to live with all four of them :)) )

Aww bless! x) Glad he's well, didn't know this could be done! My guinea pig Fudge has 3 massive cysts. :( Do you think they'd be able to be removed safely?

Hi Fudge and Rainbow - yes I'm sure it could be done but I would DEFINATELY find a cavy savvy vet. Mine is (she owns 7 herself) and so she's done a really good job. Unfortunately many vets just don't have a clue with pigs so you have to be really careful.

Where do you live? Perhaps ask other forum members in your area their opiions :))

Sarah - these are FAB photos thanks. LOVE the lettuce scoffing x)x) and poor Gloria she's so scared bless her. Maybe Shirles will be nicer to her than Betty?
Dory is a very good poser for the camera isn't he? And his hair's growing back so quickly, the wound doesn't look infected at all - seems good so far! :(|)
Will call you tomorrow evening for an update - did you wash Kev and Col? xx

How brave is he! Looks like it healing nicely and I'm glad that he is being a good boy and leaving those stitches alone. :)

Here's a new close-up taken tonight. Hair has grown back even more and has left his stitches alone like a good boy.

He's finished his 5 days of antibiotics now and weighed him tonight and he's still 1.3 kg, the same as before his operation :)
