New Born Pup
My guinea Juno (4yo) has recently been dealing on and off with a UTI for the past several months, but she suddenly started eating less and being less mobile, only eating a small amount of hay and veggies. She already had a checkup for her UTI but I felt her condition has been going on too long so I called in and got the soonest appointment. Long story short the vet did x-ray scans on her and found her molars to be growing into her nasal area the doctor mentioned shaving them down but by the way she spoke of it she made me feel like it wasn't worth the risk and money. I was prescribed an antibiotic (enrofloxacin) and a pain medicine (meloxicam) with the hopes that it will keep her eating and weight stable, but I was told pigs in a similar situation would have around 6 to 8 months left depending on the pig. I'm left heartbroken and with so many questions. Is it worth the risk to put my piggy under and have her molars shaved? If I can't afford routine filings, what can I do? Can my guinea still live a long and healthy life? Is there any possibility of her condition improving on the medication alone? Is the medication even good to begin with? I know guinea pigs only have so much time before their health is beyond saving so I want to come to a decision quickly if I am to take her to get her teeth shaven. I just want my baby to not be in any pain, and to stay with me for as long as she can
