My two boars, Einstein and Gizmo, have been together since babies, they are now around 1 year old and Gizmo has decided he wants to be dominant instead of Einstein.

He chases Einstein around all the time and will not stop humping him. Some days are worse than others. There seems to be no end, Einstein hardly ever fights back and just runs away and screams, this has been happening on and off for about a month.

I have a video here: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GC8eX1Hzd0"]Guinea Pig Dominating - YouTube[/ame]
(If it doesn't work let me know and i'll try sort it)

Is there anything I can do apart from separate them? Einstein is really laid back all the time and his only love is being pampered, I doubt he would care if he wasn't dominant but the change doesn't seem to be happening.

Advice please.
Thank you.

If they are around a year old and it's recently started, that would be due to their hormones. It's just dominance and they'll need to sort it out in their own time, but no one can judge how long that would take. Gizmo should calm down with age.

I wouldn't worry until you see Einstein either fight back and there is blood, or Gizmo starts biting Einstein. That's the only time you should step in and separate them.

I hope that's helped you a bit. I know how stressful it is.

Hey, thanks for the help.

When you say 'no one can judge how long it will take' is there any kind of time frame?

We've had it a month or two now. Do you think it will last much longer. For example, whats the longest you think it could last?

My rule is always to split them up if any blood is drawn. But I would also do it if Einstein starts to lose weight. Others may have more advice as I nearly always do neutered boar/ sow a pairings these days.

Something you could try is a couple of refuges - smaller boxes/pigloos that will enable Einstein to get in, turn around and defend the entrance. They should also always have at least 2 if not 3 boxes as this stops disagreements.

I would advise actually not to allow something smaller in he can defend as this could lead to fights. I would have three of everything (larger than there are pigs) with such a large amount of dominance. Try and lmit what kind of things they are: things that have two entrances-Open things like snuggly beds, tunnels food bowls. You will also need three water bottles/ food bowls/ portion of treats etc.
In time they will settle, something to note as spring is a common time for dominance issues and piggies tend to mate at this time of year more and so the season may have a lot to do with it.
As your boar seems to accept his behavious I would just keep a very close eye on them. My boar Harry accepted only so much and then snapped from nowhere and drew blood.
They will sort it out but puberty can last in varying times so there is no realy way to define a time. But it wont last for months and months.

Thank you!

We have just added another water bottle and bowl of food as advised. They already have separate igloos and if Einstein is quick enough, he will defend the entrance but sometimes, when Gizmo is over powering and active, he doesn't have time before he is mounted.

Einsteins squeeling seems to be dying down a little now so we think Gizmo must be getting tired for the day. We will see how this goes over the next few days. FINGERS CROSSED!

Thank you for all your suggestions! We will keep you updated :{
