I have a 3 year old nurtured male and a 2 year old sow who have been bonded for a year and a half. They live outdoors in summer and inside for winter in a 160 ferplast cage. They come out in there indoor run for a couple of hours each day. Since last night she has been chasing my male and trying to hump him. And she rumble struts and grumbles at him. He try’s to groom her. I’ve created a natural floor for them and a lot more space. My boar is a gentle soul. She had a urine infection 3 weeks ago, was on metacam, baytrill and cystease .Was x rayed for stones and kidneys fine. And no signs of ovarian cysts. So she is well now. Is she trying her luck to be the dominant one.
There is no aggression with them and they will eat together. Is she in season?

Thank you. There is no aggression. Just rumbling from her, they eat together but then she will all of a sudden chase him and hump him. He will turn around and rumble and put his head on top of hers and then groom her.

I have three girls and one neutered boy living together. Sometimes when I want to see why is one of my girls so dominate today. I pet her lower back and she will stick her butt in the air and rumble then you know she’s in season. 😳

Hi

It sounds like a hormone spike that has caused a strong season; they can happen occasionally. Please be aware that it is the small, growing ovarian cysts that often cause the classic symptoms while the large fluid-filled cysts which become dominant later in life are usually not connected to hormonal activity and often go unnoticed unless their size is causing problems.

A strong season won't cause a fall-out also it can become somewhat dramatic. Fall-outs in cross gender pairings are extremely rare once they have taken the big initial hurdle during bonding (both introduction and the following 2 group establishment weeks).

Thank you. That’s very useful to know. She’s calmed down now and they are living in harmony. Think she was in season.
