Dog Metacam, guinea pig weighs 588g
Any idea of dosage, photo of syringe we will be using below. We were thinking 0.2 on the syrynge twice a say?

It is for our little rescue Lewis, who has had a number of ailments since we adopted him, a few years ago ( he's about 3 a a half). He last had his teeth burred on 13th March (3 wks aho). His teeth now seem to be worse than before and he is struggling to eat so we are syringe feeding him pellets/critical care and homemade smoothies/ critical care. He has an appointment for next wed with a specialist guinea pig vet, about an hour's drive away. We could not get him in any early as the vet has been on holiday for a week. They are going to contact us if they fet any cancellations so we can go earlier. Hopefully we wil find out if it is just a teeth issue or if there is something underlying.
We want to start him in pain meds just incase.

I’m sorry to hear this.

We cannot tell you what dosage to give, legally only a vet can do that when they gave you the prescription.

I hope he is ok

Could any members who are giving their guinea pigs dog Metacam share their guinea pigs weight and dosage please ?

Our boy Lewis cannot get an appointment with the vet for over 5 days, we would like to make sure he is as comfortable as possible in the interim. We already have dog Metacam for the rabbits.

Hi

0.2 ml twice daily is fine. You can give max about 0.25 - 0.3 ml twice daily for a massive pain spike, so you have some leeway up in case the pain is getting worse while you are waiting.

Initially and with temporary strong pain it is better to medicate twice daily to give better round the clock cover in view of the faster metabolism.
For long term metacam (which builds up in the system), a lower once daily dosage is perfectly suitable; with the option to go back to twice daily when you max it out, like with a sterile cystitis flare.

Wishing you all the best. These things have a bad tendency to blow up at the most inconvenient of times.

Thank you so much for the information.

I hope Lewis gets on ok at the vets and they can get to the bottom of his teeth issues.
