Hi everyone, a family friend brought dog fleas into the house and I wasn’t worried because I didn’t think dog fleas would bother the pigs, I’ve just found one on Ozzy though… do they need treating for fleas now or is this a one off?

As I understand it, fleas are species-specific, so dog fleas won't survive on a guinea pig.
In that situation I would give piggy a comb with a fine toothed comb just to make sure any passengers are removed, but don't give any dog/cat flea treatment.

Hi

Dog fleas are species specific and cannot survive on guinea pigs. They will abandon ship very quickly again once they notice their error. It should not amount to any more than a very short-lives nuisance.

Guinea pigs don't have any species specific fleas and should never be treated for them. Especially dog products like flea powder can be fatal for them. I am adding this as a general reminder.
