Hey, I've just got my little guy, Garth and he doesn't really seem to be having much fun. I'm wondering what play equipment (other than a guinea pig friend which I plan on getting) is best for these little guys?

Aw, give the wee fella time to settle in - all overwhelming for him to take in new sounds, smells, noises etc. :{
A little buddy will bring his personality out so sooner is better than later - are you taking him dating for his friend ?/

Give him a little time to settle in as this will be a whole new world to him.

It is great that you are planning on getting him a friend but in the meantime, may be provide him with a soft cuddly toy (one with out the plastic eyes) that he can cuddle up against.

As for play things, cardboard tubes stuffed with hay are a firm favourite with mine. Guinea pigs love to pull the hay out from inside and it keeps them occupied.

You can also give him cardboard boxes to hide and play in and paper bags (like the ones from Primark) or similar also provide entertainment. Fill the bag with hay and he will enjoy demolishing it :)

It can take up to a couple of months for a piggy to really settle and want to play - it will probably take slightly longer without a piggy friend tbh. It's about trust really - they are very slow to trust humans in general and you have to take everything slowly.

In general, there are no real toys that piggies will "play" with in the sense of balls, wheels etc. Piggies are just not that type of animal. They will run around in tubes and tunnels once they're settled and, in my opinion this is their favourite game.

You might want to invest in some rabbit tunnels for the floor/play area and some hideys. Then, once your piggy(s) are happy, you will need to change the configuration around to keep it interesting.

They will try to work out all the possible escape routes in the tunnels etc. and will end up zooming through them which is great fun and exercise and fun to watch :)

So, in a very long-winded way (sorry) tunnels are best :)

No wheels or balls because of their spines. Buddies and lots of space make guiea pigs popcorn. What cage is the little new addition to family in? And the name of this little one?
