Hi, I have just received a1m piece of vetbed to try out in the "chillout zone" of the cage. Before I cut it to size could anybody tell me if it's likely to shrink please, so I don't waste it! Thank you.

:DI have been using Vetbed for several months now, and have not found that it shrinks after washing. It is rather bulky in the machine, though.

i'd wash it before cutting, or if it won't fit in the machine, cut it to slightly bigger than you need, wash it, and then you can always take a bit more off afterwards. i haven't found it to shrink too much though anyway :)

Did you tumble dry yours ?

Have you tumble dried as well?[/QUOTE]

No, I have never tumble-dried mine. I usually put mine in the airing cupboard or hang it on the washing line if weather permits. Either way, it gets dry quite quickly.

Mine has shrunk a bit, been washed twice, probably 1cm. I cut it bigger than I needed so still have a bit extra for future washes! I've got the really thick stuff, more like carpet than the old vet bed I used to have when I had piggies before.

Mine didn't shrink. As far as I'm aware here's two types of that style of bedding and both are referred to as VetBed. I think the true VetBed has a green backing, whereas the one I use has a ribbed rubber backing. I do not have a tumble dryer but would never consider drying mine that way anyhow due to the rubber backing. However, it dries quickly without :)

The one I have has the rubber backing, I don't tumble dry either. I had both green and rubber backing before but it was much thinner than the new stuff. I have noticed some sellers on ebay say that what they are selling is the extra thick type, although the people I bought mine from didn't put up that warning. It doesn't matter about the thickness though, the guineas love it anyway, it must be lovely and soft to lie on, and it will just go in the machine.

Thanks all, the 1m piece that just arrived is very thick and fluffy (wouldn't mind relaxing on it myself lol) with a green backing, but have just won another piece on ebay which may be different...... Jane to wait and see! Trial and (hopefully not too much) error!

YES it does shrink. You will find that it will shrink after several washes, so cut it at least an inch oversize if it is for a large plastic bottomed pen.

Thank you, it's for a section of floor on a C&C so I will add an extra inch all round.
