So I've started doing my wriggly, black piggy's nails myself 
What I'm doing is every few days, taking a tiny bit off the end with a quiet, pet nail grinder, to allow the quick to shorten and hopefully not have bleed outs. Lightning had quite a nail bleed with a vet when she was young, that the vet struggled to stop for ages, and I can't face that. 
Does the quick shorten as per pics? The vet said that the quick doesn't shorten. He's not the exotic vet in the practice so I would have taken it with a pinch of salt, but I'd have thought cat and dog nails work the same way, so it got me thinking..
