My guinea, Oreo, sometimes poops and pees SO MUCH when I old her, I think she might be scared. Also she doesn't do the happy noises guineas' make ever, the only noise she makes is the high pitched one for when she wants food. I let her play with boxes, give her hay, let her run around, what else can I do to get her to like me?

Also, I unfortunately only have one, so she doesn't have a friend, how can I make her less lonely? Thanks!

hi again,
guinea pigs do pee and poo alot regardless of what anyone does, how long have you had her?
it takes alot of time and patients and regular handling,i would definantly get a friend for her as this makes them come out of there shell and be truly happy, they are social creatures and need a friend of there own kind, human company isnt enoughxxx

Thanks again..I have had her for about 4 months..I can't get her a friend now, because I leave for college next month and my dad is already mad that he has to take care of her and he said I can't get another, because I'm just going to leave. :(

truthfully guineas are at there best with friends, maybe you could try find an alternative for when you leave so she can have a friend, she probably wont properly come out of her shell until she has a friend to chat and play with, its really important that you try and change arrangements to put her needs first, sorry if i seem harsh xxxxxxxxx

Hello. It isn't fear that makes them poo and wee, they have about a twenty minute bladder time then they really need to go, and the poos are simply ongoing! You can tell if your piggie is ok from their body language, a relaxed comfy piggie snuggling down into you is very happy despite not making noise.

My Carmilla won't make any noise until about 15 minutes into the cuddle - she just won't. Once she's completely relaxed and almost asleep she'll then start to tell me a little whingey tale - she doesn't even sound happy! But I can tell she is from body language. So don't worry about lack of noise. Watch for the body language.

Also, try singing gently to your piggie, mine love that. Just nursery songs, or the pop song you can't get out of your head or whatever. Tell them whatever you like as well but say it in an encouraging calming sort of voice, a really happy sort of voice. Your piggie may start speaking back.

Hope this helps, Sarah

talkong is great,i am also one of the crazy ones who sings to mine lol the piggies know when i sing its my goodmorning greet or food time,i sing to my rattie too and the ratties start squealing each time i sing lol

When you take her out for a cuddle, let her hide under a tea towel or something, so she doesn't feel as exposed. You can still cuddle her!

Some guinea pigs take longer to come out of their shell, and some are quieter!

I would recommend, though, together with the others, that she would profit from a friend, as she will feel very lonely, especially after you've gone and most probably withdraw even further!

I only had one also, she was quiet. I went to a rescue to get her a friend....She let out all kinds of wheeks and jumped around like a crazy pig like i've never seen before.....it brought out her personality like she was a different pig...x) Maybe she needs a buddy!

awwww blessss,

and i only have one he is appsolutly fine and always makes happy noises and he has been happier since i put a guinea pig sized toy in his cage to give him some company because i dont have enought space for two lol, and don't rush into haveing another guinea pig because he might decide not bother with you at all because he has someone else and that is my greatist worry, i tried showing himself in the mirror so he could see another guinea piggie and every time i took the mirror away he kept nudging me everytime i strocted him as if he was sayin " no dont want you" lol, but dont let me put you off if you want a another one, if i was you i would buy an older guinea or wait till yours is older and get a younger one, preferbly a rescue :)

Pola is a quiet pig...she doesn't even wheek for food.

But yeah buddies do help bring out another personality in a pig!

i have this same problem with my piggie bella she has never been one for getting lifted out her cage but usally settles down but resently she has became very disstressed and sqeeks so loudly when i try to cuddle, it makes me feel bda but i just want her to get used to me and to being held, her sister on the other hand well shes a wild one lol likes to explore and sniff me and run about on me like a climing frame . i think there just like uo diffrent moods every day x

I tried putting a mirror by her cage and she pays no attention to it. Do they really don't know that they are really looking at themselves? Oreo seems to know...

I also put a stuffed animal in her cage and I dont think she like him either :(

Does your piggy live indoors or out? The reason I ask is because I think that a piggy can live by themselves IF they have lots of human contact andare around people all the time. I agree with the others and think that she really would benefit by having a friend. My first piggy was unwanted so I rescued her. I thought she would be OK by herself but then started to feel guilty as she lived alone in our outbuilding. As soon as I got her a friend, she changed completely and completely came out of her shell. She unfortunately died and when she did, her cage mate got very lonely. I have since rescued another guinea pig and they are both so happy having each other. Even though there are 2, they love human company and like to have cuddles. Good luck with what ever you decide xx
